Special Education in VA

Hi all, I'd like to teach special education in VA, specifically children with autism. I have my master's degree in elementary education and I have my provisional license. I'm trying to find information on this here as I am new to the area. Would I have to go back to school to teach special education and if so what degree would I have to receive? TI...See More

Bulldog I'd check with VDOE on this one. I'm also wondering why you only have a provisional. You should have your collegiate professional already. You do need licensure for sped, but you really need to check with VDOE.

What are Virginia Beach Principals' reputations?

I am looking teach in Virginia Beach. As we all know, principals have different reputations - some are micromanagers, some are godzillas, and fewer are level headed and reasonable...any advice on principals in Virginia Beach from those who work there? Which ones are known to stay away from? specifically - Middle School Principals.

I am wondering what are the job prospects for Art and Music Teachers in VA? I have a Bachelors Degree in Music Ed. Which are the more favorable counties?

Bulldog It really depends on the county. Some are in need while others are cutting back, sometimes drastically. You should check the VDOE website for availability.

Chris I'm music ed too and doing multiple states. It used to be pretty easy to get a music job in VA 10 years ago compared to other states. That' s not so anymore, but it is still easier than some places. I'm only willing to do band..but if you're willing to do elementary general I'd say look a lot at Fairfax and Prince William....really any of the more ...See More
