He now commands from $60-$75 an hour when he does some tutoring on the side. So another thought is that if you will be in a metro area with high achievers try and assess the option of added income through tutoring, too.
As in his case should he ever go back to high school teaching, it may be what else you can bring to the table, too, such as any sports coaching experience or interest or administrative experience. Another possible direction in a larger school division depending on what you have been doing might also be to go into math education curriculum development or coaching of teachers after you did get certified and taught a few years.

Who says?
I know for a fact > that DC schools are always in need of good high school, upper > level math teachers as my son-in-law was there for 10 years.
Sure they are. All urban school's have a serious problem with hiring teachers for math who are math deficient. But that is irrelevant. Just because they should be hiring qualified math teachers does not mean that they are really working towards doing so. The fact is that urban school districts aren't in the business of educating urban students. They are in the business of pushing them through the grades and out the door. In other words, their focus is on graduating them, not educating them.
So many urban principals are more than happy to hire whoever will pass them with the principal's primary attention on hiring and keeping teachers who will do as they are told or who are somehow related to the principal. Education is a dirty game. Those are the real facts.
Hello and Happy New Year! Could anyone give me some information about Louisa County please? Are they hiring? What's it like to work there? Etc. Thanks in advance!
I never said it was happening there. You said it is what you would do. Sure I'll name names. YOU. You are my name. You clearly stated that you would practice what is nothing other than an abuse and misuse of authority. IT IS IN YOUR POST above. You would have no right to fire teachers over your personal agendas. Hope you are never a principal. It is sick to think of someone like you in a position of authority. But people like you are. That is what is horrifying about education. Very many like you in authority
I currently teach HS science in GA. Military family moving back to NoVa this summer. Applied to FCPS, and just wondering when invites to the job fair come out? And if I get one, do they do Skype interviews for out of towners? Just curious. Thanks for any help you can give me.
