The lack of studies meeting WWC evidence standards means that, at this time, the WWC is unable to draw any conclusions based on research about the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of Investigations in Number, Data, and Space®. Investigations in Number, Data, and Space®, published by Pearson Scott Foresman, is an activity-based K–5 mathematics curriculum. It is designed to help all students understand the fundamental ideas of number and operations, geometry, data, measurement, and early algebra. The curriculum encourages students to use prior knowledge to develop an understanding of fundamental mathematical ideas. Investigations in Number, Data, and Space® is problem-centered and de-emphasizes algorithms. Rather, the curriculum focuses on activities that encourage students to develop their own strategies for solving problems and engage in discussion about their reasoning and ideas. The curriculum at each grade level is organized into units that offer from two to eight weeks of work focused on a particular content strand, and students work in a variety of groupings, including whole class, individually, in pairs, and in small groups. The WWC identified 40 studies of Investigations in Number, Data, and Space® that were published or released between 1994 and 2008. Seven studies are within the scope of the review protocol and have an eligible design, but do not meet WWC evidence standards because they do not establish that the comparison group was comparable to the treatment group prior to the start of the intervention. Seven studies are out of the scope of the review protocol because they have an ineligible study design that does not meet WWC evidence standards, such as having no comparison group. Twenty-six studies are out of the scope of the Elementary School Math review protocol for reasons other than study design. ␣␣ Two studies were conducted outside the geographic area specified in the protocol. ␣␣ Twenty studies do not assess students’ math achievement or are not studies of the effectiveness of Investigations in Number, Data, and Space®. ␣␣ Four studies are literature reviews or meta-analyses in which the author does not conduct a primary analysis of the effec- tiveness of Investigations in Number, Data, and Space®. 1. profesoraApply through HR - don't go visiting schools at least for the peninsula districts (and more than likely the others as well.) Go online and check out their current openings, then if a particular place looks interesting I'd hop onto citydata.com and ask about that particular school and see what feedback you get...
I have been teaching since December, 2006. Initially I didn't think that I wanted to teach in Norfolk because some areas of the city get bad publicity in the news all the time. Norfolk & Portsmouth have the largest percentage of lower income, inner city neighborhoods in the region. Well, my first teaching position was a 5th grade strings position in Norfolk. I enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately I am no longer teaching music - I had to get issues straight with my license and Norfolk could not wait. I am now teaching computer related fields in Suffolk.
My recommendation is to come to the area and post your application with all of the nearest school systems. If you're moving to the Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Chesapeake area, then post at those school systems as well as Portsmouth & Suffolk. If you're moving to Hampton or Newport News, you may want to consider York County & Williamsburg. The people I know who are unable to find a job fit into one of two categories - too picky about the school system or very limited because of their license endorsements.
You may have a hard time finding a full-time position during the school year due to hiring freezes and may have to settle for a long-term sub. During the summer, however, positions will open up and the open minded and flexible people should be able to get employed.
My husband will be working in Springfield, VA. We are ...See MoreMy husband and I are both 30 years old (no kids yet...only dogs) and will be moving to VA in the next few months if everything goes right. I have started the process of applying for teacher certification. I have my certification in K-6 el education and have taught for the past 3 years.
My husband will be working in Springfield, VA. We are sort of a down to earth but modern couple. We have lived in the fast paced downtown city lifestyle, lived in a house in the suburbs, and lots of apartments while going to college and starting our careers. We both agree that we have enjoyed the energy of the downtown city lifestyle the most. We walked everywhere and there were always events going on nearby. However, I also enjoy being outdoors and enjoying nature.
I love nature and look forward on weekends or even during the week to do outdoorsy things such as hiking on a mountain, biking, or jogging outside. Atleast being close enough to drive somewhere scenic.
Knowing that my husband will be working in Springfield and how I have described our lifestyle..... Can anyone who lives in this area give some advice on what areas/counties as a new teacher I should look into? Also currently how is the job market up in VA? What other advice can you give as I prepare to teach in VA? We currently live in GA. Thanks for any help.
We are a language and intercultural training center that is looking for a subcontractor to teach French to our corporate clients relocating to France. They live in Leesburg, VA.
I am looking for any help I can get with doing a Virginia Studies VGLA. Does anyone know of any websites or resources they used to compile this type of VGLA? I am trying to help out a fellow teacher. Thanks!

One thing the article did bring out that I liked is if the feds are going to mandate testing, then they should run it for the whole country so we can see who really is doing what they are supposed to...but that's another discussion altogether.

Yes, you are right they didn't necessarily change the question difficulty but the number needed to pass, which equates you need to know less of it to pass.
I do agree that with history the facts do take precident to the complex ideas and interactions that created the history itself. It is a shame because THAT is the information that will carry us forward as a people if we understand what happened and why. The dates and names allow us to better understand the period and the limitations of it doesn't have much do help us in the way of not making the same mistakes over and over again. Jeopardy doesn't help us apply the lessons learned from history!
Excuse any typos or spelling errors...
