We just moved to Arlington. We decided to rent with the intention of learning more about the area and planned to buy in the county. We visited our local school and I was thrilled until I asked the math question. I cannot believe Arlington is using Investigations. Didn't Fairfax try this several years ago and abandon it? I have pulled my child out of another school once already (in another state) for this horrible math program. I've searched for a petition and can't find one for Arlington. In fact, I can't find any information about Arlington parents protesting Investigations at all. Can this be? If you know anything about the "math wars" in Arlington, I'd appreciate your help directing me to meetings, petitions, etc. And are there ANY schools in Arlington not using this program? Does Fairfax allow out-of-county applicants on a space-available basis? Thank you!

Maybe it is just the school in Arlington you visited that does Investigations. Sometimes, lower income schools push it...don't know if that is the case with your school.

real math please Thank you both for your replies!

According to the vice principal and a woman at the district office, Investigations is used county-wide in Arlington. Though I agree, my personal experience is that districts who struggle seem to grasp at this program as a desperate measure to improve scores in the short term. As a parent, it sends me a mess...See More
