Hi:

I am requesting some information regarding the following counties: Stafford, Prince William, Richmond, Spotsylvania...

These school districts will be coming to our annual job fair and my husband is looking for a job in Biology, General Science, Chemistry and/or Math. Just wondering how your economy is there and what districts you could recommend for employment as well as education for our kids. We have one in high school and one in middle school.

I really appreciate your help. Things in our part of the state are too good and trying for find work is also quite difficult, even though the subjects are deemed critical shortage areas.

Thanks again.

NJ Teacher I know in VA there is the South part of VA by Roanoke, and the Tidewater region by Williamsburg. I understand that the better salaries are closer to the DC area.

Bulldog The pay is better near DC, but don't forget to factor in the cost of living. It is MUCH more expensive the closer you get to DC. Houses that are $300k in NoVA can be $150K in Roanoke or Williamsburg. Just be sure to account for all of the factors. The pay scales can fluctuate wildly from county to county.

Good luck!

CJ I know I like Baltimore and Anne Arundel. I don't know much about Harford and Charles either way....more rural than the other two I know. Prince George is equivalent to teaching in an urban district like Rochester or Syracuse.I don't want to sound all knowing, but if I had your degree, I'd definitely check out the county level job fairs in MD and V...See More

MSTeacher Definitely want to be outside of a city. In the suburbs, not in a rural setting. We will have to start doing some more research. I know what you mean about Rochester and Syracuse. Buffalo is no better unless you are in the suburbs of any of those cities. Thanks again.

MSTeacher So hubby interviewed with Stafford, Richmond, Prince George and Ann Arundel. He was not impressed with Richmond at all but liked all the other ones. He could not get an appointment with Howard. So, now we just need to figure out where to go. Prince George seems to have a relo package, loan forgiveness plan, etc. Plus they are so close to D.C. That ...See More
