Hello,

I need everyone's 2 cents advice. I am a new teacher in VA, I used to teach in a nearby state with a union, somehow I do not agree with the unstructured methods, curriculum and grading system of this school district. Their forms of assessments really sucks! I can't believe that this is the only time they are using formative and summative assessments, exit tickets etc. Now I know why my child's teacher could nt explain how my child got a B on her report card, and how one test in science is the basis of my child's grade in the report card. This school system requires compulsory departmental meetings after work hours, after school activities and workshops without compensation. The principal and vice principal are allowed to threaten and bully a teacher in a closed door meeting. They assign you at a bus duty spot that cannot be covered by worker's compensation because you are standing on a non-school property, so if you get run over by a car, it's your fault!

Spotsylvania Joe When I quit the Spotsylvania school district after teaching there for 35 days I just left my badge and key in my desk and walked out. They will find another idiot to replace you in a few days.

Only one thing you could have done to improve that exit You should have also left a cheap cd player sitting on the desk on repeat mode playing, "You can take this job and shove it, I ain't working here no more..."

Leaving NVa! @ I can't take it anymore...I think I know where you teach, and if so, I am in that same boat (and possibly, district). Our county pulled one of its famous "oh, by the ways," and radically changed to a new grading system based on the report cards. Like you, I am hoping to leave after this year. The parents in this county are extremely demanding and...See More
