I'm planning to move back to the Peninsula area (York county, NN, Hampton, etc) summer 2012 and enroll in the career switcher program at ODU. Can anyone give me a feel for the teacher market in that area? I will be looking for a position as a high school maths teacher. I'm obviously not inquiring here about a specific job. I'm just curios if there will be the possibility of job openings that a newbie would have a shot at, or will I be in line behind hundreds of laid-off teachers, etc. Thanks for any responses.

lol I am the one calling names? Please. I am just stating obvious facts. You claimed that I don't "know what I am talking about" based on my choice of spelling. Moronic certainly captures that thought process perfectly. What would you know about math openings? You are obviously not a math teacher. It is you talking about things you don't know about. So...See More

Other Options I would not take anyone person's opinion on the job market - BUT do go out and do some research yourself. I would suggest going to some job fairs for teachers, if you can just walk in, to see, in fact, if counties in areas you might like are hiring for math teachers. Talk to principals if you can get in for trends they see. Your best bet will be to...See More

non-math people don't know what they are talking about. All these people looking at math teaching from the OUTSIDE do not know what they are talking about. They are probably well-intentioned but they are ignorant. I do know as an insider.
