Hello, I am trying to find a teacher from Vermont for a postcard exchange. All teachers send and receieve one postcard from each of the 50 states. Our group only has 6 states left and all 50 will be represented.
Please join us if you would like to take part in this great project for your classroom.
I'm hoping someone can answer the following questions for me: Are all openings for elementary school teachers in the Burlington area advertised on Schoolspring? Or do the school districts just expect potential applicants to submit resumes, not necessarily in response to a specific ad? When do the school districts do most of their hiring?
I am an elementary teacher currently teaching in the UK and my wife and I hope to move to the Burlington area in the summer of 2008 (assuming I can find work). Lately I've been checking Schoolspring to get an idea of how many positions become available in a given year; I was surprised to see that so far this year there have been very few ads for elementary school teachers in the Burlington area and I'm wondering why that is. If anyone could help me out with this, I'd be most grateful.
I live in Burlington and it has taken me three years to find a full-time teaching position... and it's an hour north of Burlington.
The teaching field, especially in Chitteden County, is extremely competitive. There is a huge base of very qualified teachers from the University of Vermont and Saint Michael's College.
I worked my way into the Burlington Schools by being an on- call substitute for one year, a permanent building substitute for two, taught ELL summer school for 2 summers, taught at the after school program, etc...
So, good luck and definately expand your search outside of Burlington and into other counties.

Our project centers around a stuffed puppy named Ollie! He wants to travel across the country meeting children from each state. We are looking for a participating class from EACH OF THE 50 STATES!
Ollie is based on the story of a real dog named Owney that was adopted by Postal workers in the late 1800's. He traveled around the country on trains from post office to post office.
I am starting a post card exchange for the 2007-2008 school year. We will start mailing out postcards September 10th and have them all mailed out by April 1st. I will email you a list of participants by August 27th with the addresses.
I want this to be a learning experience for my students. They will experience writing addresses and they will learn the locations and a few facts about each state. You can send pre-made postcards or make them yourself.
Once I get the list of participants (with their school addresses) I will mail one to everyone on the list. Each class would send a postcard to everyone on the list. So, by the end of the exchange, your class would send a postcard to hopefully every state and receive one from every state too! The real purpose is to have a fun way to study each state.
Please keep in mind that if you decide to drop out of the exchange, you need to let me know so the students are not disappointed. I want this to be an awesome experience for our students so, please sign up for our exchange.
Email me your name, address, email address, and state if you would like to join. You can participate from any grade level. [email removed]
Please join!! Here are the states we still need! Delaware Hawaii Idaho Iowa Kansas Louisiana Maine New Mexico Rhode Island South Dakota Utah Vermont Washington West Virginia Wisconsin
Email me if you would like to join! [email removed]
I am living in Montreal right now and hopefully will be finishing a bachelors soon and was wondering if there is anyone out there who knows what i would have to do to teach in vermont...its very different here in Quebec...we have to get a bachelors degree first and then do another 3-4 years of schooling to get a license.
I have no plans to ever teach here in Quebec so I was wondering if there were any canadians out there teaching in VT that could tell me how they did it.
Welcome to America 2007! People don't change, they merely polish their acts...

My husband and I are moving to Vermont next summer and we are both teachers with Masters (I teach 4th grade and he is elementary SLD). What math and reading programs are used in Vermont so we can begin to familiarize ourselves with them now? We are in Las Vegas and use Orchard math and Lexia for interventions and the Harcourt Trophies series for reading. We also mix in Saxon math and Math Advantage. What do we need to be familiar with?
