MWV Children’s Museum to Host First Annual Early Childhood Conference

The MWV Children’s Museum is hosting the First Annual Early Childhood Conference, “Come Play With Me!” Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Kennett Senior High School, in North Conway, NH.

MWV Children’s Museum to Host First Annual Early Childhood Conference

The MWV Children’s Museum is hosting the First Annual Early Childhood Conference, “Come Play With Me!” Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Kennett Senior High School, in North Conway, NH.

This conference came to fruition through discussions between Deb Meader, Carroll County Child Care Resource and Referral Program Manager; Ida Streeter, Director, Madison Preschool; and Kate Stanley, Lead Toddler Teacher and Co-Director, Cornerstone Kids. “We all felt strongly that the Mount Washington Valley needed a conference for Early Childhood Educators that was affordable and close to home,” sates Ida Streeter. “With the new Child Care Licensing regulations, Early Childhood Educators will now be required to obtain gradually more workshop training hours over the next 3 years. The ‘Come Play With Me!’ Conference gives us an opportunity to gain 5 ½ hours in one day.”

The importance of play in the lives of young children is a key focus for the MWV Children’s Museum. “When this idea came about it seemed like a great fit for us,” says Shelly Morin, Executive Director of the MWV Children’s Museum. “Early Childhood Educators live the importance of play daily and it is important for us to share that passion with them and parents of young children.”

The Keynote Speaker for the “Come Play With Me!” Conference will be Kathy Sosny, Coordinator of Disability Services, Early Childhood Professor and Academic Support Director at White Mountains Community College. Kathy has been teaching young children and adults for over 40 years about the importance of play. Her Keynote Address, “Come Play With Me,” is sponsored by Carroll County Child Care Resource and Referral.

Many Mount Washington Valley programs are sponsoring workshops at the “Come Play With Me!” Conference. Mountain View Montessori, Growing Tree Learning Center, Preschool Technical Assistance Network (with funding provided by the NH DHHS/Child Development Bureau), Carroll County Child Care Resource and Referral, Madison Preschool are all sponsoring workshops from Hands-on Math and Science to Creating Preschool Portfolios to Document Children’s Learning.

“The ‘Come Play With Me!’ Conference is not only a great way to gain training hours for Early Childhood Educators!” states Kate Stanley. “It’s also a great way for parents, grandparents, and anyone who spends time with young children to learn about the importance of play in their lives!”

Registration for the “Come Play With Me!” Conference has begun! Register soon, space is limited!

Register before September 1, 2009 and it’s only $30 to attend (lunch is included!). After September 1, 2009, registration is $35 to attend.
