Has anyone had to go through the professional certification process? I moved to WA a little over 2 years with 8 years of experience. Because I got my certificate after 200 I have to complete the Pro-Cert process. It is a ton of work. Is anyone in it? Has anyone completed it? Am I going to make it?
My wife and I are planning to go to Alaska next summer. We will be taking a cruise from Vancouver. Our usual route is up Colorado through Montana to get to Washington state. That would enable meeting some of you Washington teachers at a gathering.
Therefore, I would like to know if any of you would be interested?
I noticed that a lot of parents log on here to find out what's going on with the teachers in their area. Since the Marysville thing happened I read someone's post on here about switching their children into private schools. This is something I am completely against. Changing schools can be traumatic for your children. I know that what is going on at the Marysville School District is not pretty and you are obviously upset about the fact that your children have to suffer from it but there are many other problems that you could be causing by moving them. I myself have been switched from school to school from public to private every year sometimes twice a year! There was only one school that I went to for a year and a half and during the beginning of the second year I have my fondest memories of school. It is important for children to have stability. I don't have any friends from High School because I never stayed at one school long enough to become "bestfriends" with anyone. I never had an important teacher in my life, I can't even remember any of my teacher's names. I only hope that if you are a parent and you are thinking about putting your children in private school, make sure you can afford it for the long haul. Private school is where I struggled the most. The private school I went to was 1 year ahead of the public school that I was in before. So I had skipped a whole year of learning, and I never got the help that I needed from my teacher to catch up because how can you teach a whole year in a matter of a few days in order to fit in with the rest of the kids? This happened to me twice, once in 3rd grade and again in 8th. My mother also tried to homeschool me every other semester but to no avail. She would buy the books and the computer programs that are supposed to work but this stuff is just too easy to cheat on and besides it just made my mom tired of trying. Eventually I got sick of trying to get good grades and I found it easier to hang out with the wrong crowd; which lead me to where I'm at now- A 21 year old high school drop out who's studying to become a 6th grade teacher. Luckily for me I feel like my experiences help me to see what leads kids to the "dark side" and I am able to share that with others so they can learn from my parents mistakes. So with all that said, I really hope you can understand where I'm coming from and take it into consideration.
Our school district is going to revise our report cards by December of this year (lots of time, huh?) Anyways they want to develop the report card so that the state standards are on it. Do any of you out there have a report card that follows this criteria?
I have a liberal Arts degree from Oregon, and planning to get my master in teaching with a teaching certificate. I am wondering if someone could tell me if the benefits for k-12 teachers in Oregon is better than WA, or it is the other way around? It will be very helpful on my decision of if I should pursue my masters in Oregon or WA.
What types of teachers are most in demand in Washington and Oregon right now?
Like many people here, I would like to move to the Pacific Northwest. I am currently in graduate school in North Carolina and am getting a M.A. in Teaching (Secondary School English.) I'm also studying Spanish and Russian so that I can obtain an ESL endorsement. I'd love to teach English, of course, but can also teach drama, business (I have some courses towards an MBA), social studies, and screenwriting (one of my undergrad majors.)

I am a secondary English teacher thinking about moving to the Seattle/Bellevue area. From what I understand, jobs are like gold out here. I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight into the situation and also what are the schools like in the Seattle/Bellevue area.
