I am looking for a teacher who grew up in Grandview Washington or her sister. Her name was Beverly Sherry. She is approx. in her fifties so she may be retired.
I've taught 6 years in WA and bring home a little less than $2000/month. You will do significantly better if you have your Masters, which I don't yet have. The important thing in WA is to find a place where you can afford to live on a teacher's salary- in Ft Lewis, you should be o.k., but any farther north, housing gets expensive. Some districts have "perks" like a lot of extra work days and supplemental contracts for coaching and extra-curricular activities.
You may want to check out the Clover Park school district at [link removed]
They cover the Ft. Lewis area and are looking for teachers for the upcoming school year. There is salary information on the site, but they do offer some interesting perks, especially when it comes to advanced degrees for teachers.
They do consider themselves an "urban school district" and take it very seriously, but it's worth looking at.
I have a 7th grader in the self contained classroom. He is intelligent. With learning disabilities, processes slow, writing is laborious and hard. We've discussed having an untimed test, a scribe, quiet one on one testing, breaks etc in his IEP. He had the test in elementary, he refused to do it, so there was no score. He's already complained about taking this one.
Is this fair to him? I feel like I'm setting him up for failure.
Would you opt out? Or go ahead and let him take the test? I'll be asking his teacher this as well. Would appreciate your thoughts on this.
HELP. I have been just given the task of teaching a leadership class and only have parts of a curriculum called Building Leaders for Life from the Washington Association for Secondary School Principals. Does anyone have any info where I can get more of this. Or better yet, any advice? I can't seem to find many activities to connect the students. Please help.
I don't know if this would help in your situation, but are you aware of the "Giraffe Project" based in Langley, WA? It's a service learning model with elements of leadership, team work, etc.

I am currently enrolled at UNLV in Las Vegas as an undergraduate Elementary Education major. My wife is being transferred to Seattle for her job, and I am considering transferring to a university in Seattle.
Where do all of you in Elementary Ed. in Seattle receive your undergraduate degrees from? What I am looking for is a public university with relatively affordable tuition. I am currently in the midst of my student teaching practicums at UNLV with only two semesters to go until completion.
Obviously, I have scoured the web looking for this type of information, but have been unable to obtain a clear picture from the various university website. So far, I have checked UW, WSU, WWU, and Antioch. Do these universities offer undergraduate elementary education degress in the Seattle area?
Any guidance you can give would be much appreciated.
I hate to throw in a monkey wrench, but you are likely to be stuck with out of state tuition. Not a pretty picture. Good luck in finding what you need.
You might contact City University which has campuses in the Seattle area. Down here in Vancouver, they are offering a BA with Special Ed. endorsment. Seattle Pacific University and Concordia might be some others to look up.

I'm looking for a few new members to join my 2004-2005 postcard exchange! :o) This is an established International Post Card Exchange. Students love learning about their friends around the world! Please email me if you're interested! THANK YOU!
We need a teacher from WA for our postcard exchange for next year. If interested, email me with your name, school name and address, and grade. It's fun and a great teaching tool for all grades.
The Washington Department of Financial Institutions is sponsoring a financial literacy curriculum initiative in the 2004/2005 school year. The department will give free curriculum materials and free teacher training to 50 second grade teachers from across the State who are interested in participating in the initiative.
You may learn more about the curriculum that will be used at the link below. The curriculum is called Money Savvy Kids and it was designed to be taught in early elementary grades. Teachers love it because it is totally scripted and requires no lesson planning. It is 8 units long and teaches basic personal finance, while reinforcing skills in math, reading, science, art and music! It gets rave reviews from all who have participated. Check out the testimonials section of the publisher's Website:
