I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF YOU WOULD becoming a member of an established international post card exchange? If yes, please let me know. I am the organizer of an established international post card exchange. WE HAVE NEVER had a participant from your state and we would LOVE to have an opportunity to exchange post cards with you! I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks! :o)
I'm moving to Washington and just got a 3rd grade position north of Seattle. I've gone to OSPI's site looking for grade level expectations for each subject and can't seem to find anything specific for 3rd grade science. Can anyone tell me if there are topics/themes/units that are specific to 3rd? ...or does each district make his decision independently...? Thanks in advance-- Julie Sunshine

Hi Julie,
Are you the Julie who gave me the e-portfolio? If you are, it was great!
For the grade level expectations, I know that Bellevue has them on their site and Snoqualmie Valley does, too. They are under the curriculum links...
I think every district does its own thing for science, butin Bellevue, 3rd does rocks and minerals, the human body, and sound, I think is the third one...all through FOSS kits. Diane
The following states are still needed to complete our Postcard Exchange: AL, AK, CO, CT, DE, DC, IA, KS, KY, ME, MD, MN, MT, NV, NH, ND, OR, RI, SC, SD, WV, WY
If you are interested, please e-mail me your school address. We would love to have you. To find out more about the Postcard Exchange, read on.
I teach 5th grade and find that a postcard exchange ties in well as a geography review, as well as writing--the format of a postcard.
If you choose to join, your job will be to send each participant a postcard. Usually I have my class create one postcard and then photocopy and glue it on individual postcards. In the letter we include information about our state and our school.
Then when we receive the various cards from other states we display them on a bulletin board. I put a U.S. map on the wall and everytime I receive a card we put a pin in that city/state and attach the postcard.
My students love receiving the postcards. They have an opportunity to learn little things about states and schools.
At the end of the summer I will be e-mailing all of the participants a list of addresses that will be involved in the exchange. Usually we have about 30 states, I would love to get all 50 states, but I haven't had that happen yet. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you are interested so I can add your state to our list.
I'm currently a student trying to collect some information about no child left behind and IDEA and how it affects teachers, administrators, and diagnosticians, if you have any opinions please help me out.
1. What do you feel are your roles in complying with the mandats of IDEA? 2. Are these the same roles and mandates for 504? 3. What do you feel is the school's role in incorporation a No Child left behind policy? 4. Do you feel that the school should be responsible for all children no matter what their disability? 5. How do you feel about the reauthorization of IDEA and how has it affected your job? 6. How important is IDEA to special education?
NCLB is destroying public education and it is not in compliance with IDEA. Students are not being taught at their IEP levels due to NCLB!!!! IT has to be illegal. Kids reading at a 1st grad level required to take a 5th grade test if they are in that grade!! CRAZY!! THanks Bush!

Hi, I am Miss M, a 5th grade teacher, from MS. Your state is needed for a K-6 postcard exchange. We'll only be accepting one address from each state. Please keep in mind that you will be responsible for sending a postcard representing your state to all of the 49 states on the list. I will send you a list of all teachers participating in September. The list will close on September 30 or as soon as we have all 50 states. Help me spread the word! We will mail out postcards the month of October. IF you are interested please email me at [email removed].
Hi! I am a teacher in Florida and I would like to relocate to Seattle or its surroundings. How is teaching like there? Here, Jeb Bush is destroying education with its FCAT mandatory testing. How is employment?Benefits?Which area is good?Renting?Living? or any other advice. Thank you.
Seattle is a great place to live. I have left temporarily to go to graduate school but I definately plan on returning. People will tell you it's expensive to live in Seattle but its not. Because the city is compact it's easy to get around and you will hardly need to drive saving lots on gas. The electricity is very cheap, at least compared to Las Vegas where I am now. I lived in North Seattle in a neighborhood called Ballard which is quite affordable.
I don't know about the teaching jobs up there because I have been gone for two years. I remember there was a huge shortfall with the Seattle school district a couple of years ago when they layed off teachers but they ended up hiring almost everybody back. There are lots of school districts in the Seattle area so make sure you search them all. I would recommend picking up a map, going to the internet, and looking for each towns school district. Here in Vegas there is just one but up there, there are numerous.
I wish you lot's of luck! Seattle is a wonderful place and I miss it a lot!
Here's how our exchange works: You are responsible for obtaining, writing and mailing 49 postcards (one to each state). The postcards should have info about your state, your classroom, etc. Please mail your postcards towards the end of September/early October. I will mail out the address list when it's completed (hopefully soon!).
If you'd like to join and your state is listed above, please give me:
