I've been trolling on this board for a while and have read about the difficult job market that you all have. I was wondering if this is the same in Seattle. I will be an elementary teacher from Colorado next fall with only student teaching under my belt.
My husband is looking for a job in the Seattle area. I know that housing is very expensive here. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on affordable cities/suburbs to search. We are willing to commute up to 1 hour, however, the closer the better. An ideal house would be no more than 300k, although I know this may not be realistic.
I grew up in Bothell and loved it. It is about 30 minutes north of Seattle and right on a great bus line. I rode the bus to downtown Seattle often to meet my mom after work and is was always an easy ride. As a matter of fact my mom met my stepdad on the bus- a lot of people commute this way. ANYWAY, Bothell has great school and still has some good family home areas under $300K.
I was wondering how the outlook is for Special Education teachers in the Spokane area? I'm really hoping to get a job out there for the coming school year (moving from Michigan) but I don't want to waste money on a new certificate for nothing!
Dont know if anyone can help me but i just need pointing in the right direction as to where i can get advice about relocating from England United Kingdom to Seattle to teach either kindergarten or Elementary classes. Basically i need to know how to go about it and how likely it would be to get a job there and how long i would be able to work there. I have a family 2 children and wanted to relocate but not sure i am able to?? Only just starting to consider this so need advice. Thank you
Try searching the Washington state education department. I dont have their link but google it in and it should tell you about licensing. I cant answer because I am not sure how international degrees work towards licensing. Hope those websites have something.
And, yes before moving make sure you have a couple of jobs lined up.

Hello, my wife & I are looking to move to Spokane. My wife is an elementary grade school teacher. She has taught for many years and some of her qualifications include ESL and Bi-Lingual (Spanish). What is the job market like for someone like her in the Spokane and surrounding areas??
Spokane is one of the toughest teaching markets in the country. There are many education colleges, and the population of kids is not growing fast as say in Calif where there are so many immigrants.
Try the Pasco area, they definitely need bilingual teachers.
I've watched Spokane for years (I'm from there but live now in Calif) and the ed market is desperate.
Here (san Jose) there are literally hundreds of open jobs.
I also have a bilingual Span credential, I can find hundreds of jobs here but Spokane is very very limited. Just look at the various websites.
You also have to work much harder there, the work ethic is very different from California.

One of my paras is interested in going to school to get a teaching certificate. She doesn't have enough experience to qualify for the special program for paras, but does have an AA degree. I'm looking for colleges or universities in the King County area. So far, I've found City College, but surely there are others? Thanks! wasub

One possibility is CWU's branch campus in Lynnwood (at Edmonds Community College). She can get a BA in Elementary Education there. I think they have a cohort that takes evening classes. More info: [link removed]!
