Hello, I am a teacher who is planning a move to the Seattle area this summer with my family. I have a baby who will be 8 months old at the start of the next school year. I am shocked at the prices of childcare in Seattle. Does anyone have any suggestions? Where can teachers afford to send their children? Thank you!

Also, check out Childcare Referral for WA and ask about licensed childcare homes, which usually run a little less than centers. wasub

I am looking for study guides for the West-E ELL test. I am already endorsed in Oregon but my Praxis score is 20 points to low for Washington. I could use suggestions please.
Its incredible that Oregon's passing scores are lower than WA. I had the same experience with the Social Studies exam. Good Luck with the study guide, when I was studying for the SS test I basically relied on Wikepedia, and middle school texts, etc. a few books I would reccomend are Practice with Purpose, and mehtods text on ELL, the big thing in WA now is GLAD strategies so it may help to review the theory and practice of these. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Let me know how the test is, I am going to be taking it later.
melissa pearcyIf you are interested in GLAD, I am becoming a trainer for the Spokane Public School district and have a lot of resources on it. One of them is the book Bringing It All Together By Marcia Bretchel. It lists a lot of strategies and Bretchel is the creator of GLAD. Please let me know if you want more info than this. I'm currently considering becoming an elementary school teacher, 2nd or 3rd grade. If all goes well, I should be finished with my teacher certification program and be ready to teach by the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year. Some people have been telling me to reconsider teaching in Washington because of the recent layoffs and budget cuts. I'm hopeful that things will pick up in the next few years by time I'm able to teach but wanted to get some input... Any advice would be appreciated.
Also, National Standards will probably be implemented in 2014, so the more you learn about them the better. There is also a good chance that some older teachers who have been putting off retiring will do so then, in order to not have to learn new curricula. You actually have pretty good timing.

I am looking for a teacher in Washington to join my postcard exchange for the 10-11 school year. This is a highly organized exchange and has been going strong for 6+ years. Please email me if you are interested or have questions! Thanks in advance!
1. As student achievement and a greater understanding of curriculum have become more relevant, what are some ways you have found to apply curriculum to previous knowledge? 2. Technology seems to be the way in which education is steering itself. Some believe that technology can lead the way and eventually produce better schools, while others believe that there may be long-term consequences that are not being considered in the rush to use technology. What are your thoughts on this issue? 3. NCLB states that the equitable distribution clause requires states to take steps to “ensure that poor and minority children are not taught at higher rates as other children by inexperienced, unqualified, or out-of-field teachers.” What are you beliefs on this subject and why? 4. How do you view the NCLB act? What is your opinion on the matter? 5. In your years of experience do you feel that your teaching philosophy has helped or harmed your classroom? Have you had to change it? 6. How do you talk to a parent who may not agree with you as a teacher? 7. What steps do you take in the classroom to implement NCLB while obtaining Higher Order Thinking levels for those students? 8. How does your overall school mission coincide with your classroom philosophy that addresses a safe learning environment? 9. How do the styles/ methods you use today differ from those that you used when you first begin teaching, what brought about the change? 10. In your opinion what should the desired outcome (socially, economically, and politically) of the teacher be when teaching students?
