I'm conducting a one question survey. If you have taken the Praxis II Content Knowledge Exam in your discipline, did you find the exam valid? Yes or No and Why or why not? This information will be used to determine whether or not to use this exam as a measure of content knowledge for teachers applying for advanced compensation. We already have portfolio and performance measurements, but we are trying to determine which exam would be appropriate to get an objective measure of content knowledge.
I have a Master of Arts in English, a California Professional Clear Credential in English, and many years of experience. Additionally, I have been substituting K to 12 in Sonoma County, California.
What are the requirements? What is the procedure? How much paperwork? Is there enough work? What's the pay?

I am trying to gather support and ideas for changing the minimum age to purchase cigarettes and tobacco products from 18 to 21. I also want to support a more restrictive policy on smoking in public (similar to that in effect currently in California). I would like to hear any ideas on the issue positive or negative. Thanks
I am in-training teacher for Reading Recovery. I need some resources(articles, tapes, books) that will help me on introducing a book during a reading recovery lesson.
I need some help. I live in Central Washington State. I am a Certified Washington State Teacher. I have been a substitute teacher in various classrooms for the past two+ years here. I have taken over a 1st grade classroom and have been the only teacher for this classroom since the first part of October until now, 1/23/03.
So are you asking whether you should be paid a full time salary rather than sub pay? If so.. check with the building union rep. If it has been that long, with no end in sight, you might qualify for a different level of pay. Just ask someone in your building then go to the District office and talk witht he personnel director. If you have done all the planning, conferences, etc.. then I'm almost certain you would qualify.

Can anyone tell me what my rights are (if any), concerning this position. I will be extremely grateful for any input.
I can't believe that people are not using this chatboard to discuss what is really happening in Washington. This is a very scary situation and we all need to communicate to let everyone know how the budget cuts are affecting the school districts out there. Let's get a dialog going. My district is talking 150 layoffs. We are in a major panic over getting our levy passed. What is happening where you are?
I teach in Texas. Last year in my very small district there were 40 positions cut. And there is no funding for any special programs. It is going to be worse this next year. However, the superintendent and other administrators always seem to get a raise. Hmmmmmm....

My district is talking about beginning Open Court to solve our WASL woes. I remember this program a long time ago in another state. Who is using this program now? What do you think of it?
I teach in Texas. I used the old Open Court and absolutely loved it. The new one sucks. The stories are 2+ grade levels above grade level. The skills and phonics strategies are not taught the same way as the old series. The new way is ineffective. The book is only useful with gifted and talented students. Your regular or below-level students will be completely lost. Good luck
