I graduated with a BS in Mechanical engineering and have been working for the past 10 years. I'm very intersed in changing fields and becomming a teacher. I'm tired of the travel. I would love to become a Physics/Science or Math teacher and am looking for a way to get started. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Jason
Wife and I taught in the coulee region of WI for twenty years, but wanted something better for our family. Came to Gwinnett County Georgia (gcps) and found a hidden slice of heaven!! Got a 30% pay raise, cost of living is half of what it is in Wisconsin, district built 32 new schools in the last 4 years and ALL were paid for before being built, and due to increasing enrollment, hires 1400 new teachers every year!! I came to the WI job fair in Madison in June to help WI kids find jobs, and had an overwhelming response. Check out teachgeorgia.com.
AND, in Newsweeks May 2007 issue of the top high schools in the nation, the STATE of Wisconsin had four schools on the list that were all centered around wealthy suburban Milwaukee districts, while the DISTRICT I teach in had 6!!! Kind of blows the old southern stereotypes out the window!!!
Come on down for a little Southern hospitality, that is NOT a myth!

I've seen this Ali guy trolling on several other state's boards. He does the same thing. Ignore him, he is just looking for a reaction to his inane comments. He actually is kind of funny in a stupid sort of way.

I am starting a post card exchange for the 2007-2008 school year. We will start mailing out postcards September 10th and have them all mailed out by April 1st. I will email you a list of participants by August 27th with the addresses.
I want this to be a learning experience for my students. They will experience writing addresses and they will learn the locations and a few facts about each state. You can send pre-made postcards or make them yourself.
Once I get the list of participants (with their school addresses) I will mail one to everyone on the list. Each class would send a postcard to everyone on the list. So, by the end of the exchange, your class would send a postcard to hopefully every state and receive one from every state too! The real purpose is to have a fun way to study each state.
Please keep in mind that if you decide to drop out of the exchange, you need to let me know so the students are not disappointed. I want this to be an awesome experience for our students so, please sign up for our exchange.
Email me your name, address, email address, and state if you would like to join. You can participate from any grade level. [email removed]
Please join!! Here are the states we still need! Delaware Hawaii Idaho Iowa Kansas Louisiana Maine New Mexico Rhode Island South Dakota Utah Vermont Washington West Virginia Wisconsin
Email me if you would like to join! [email removed]
Greetings, I wish everyone who reads this has had a good summer. I am considering a move to the Northern IL/Southern WI/possibly Milwaukee area within the next 3-4 years once I have my masters' degree. I teach high school math and wish to keep that teaching assignment for the next, perhaps, FOREVER. (BIG SMILE) I am currently certified as such in Illinois and on my initial certificate (four-year certificate).
I would like some general information on Wisconsin school districts (especially around the Milwaukee/Racine/Kenosha areas), regarding salary, working conditions, places to avoid, and whether I could REALLY afford a house in any one of those towns on a Masters' Degree salary.
I've heard it's awfully hard to get a job in WI, people have been trying for years. I think the special ed, math, science teachers are getting some luck though!

My name is Jen and I'm new to this chatboard thing. I live in Pennsylvania right now, but need to move to Wisconsin. Without going into the problem too deeply, my brother lives in Wauzeka and is going to need help with his family. I have an Emergency certificate to "guest" teach,(that's what they call it here) substitute teach. I'm going into my second year and just got it renewed. It's only goog for a year. I have a bachelor's degree from a four year art college here in PA. I couldn't tell you if it was accredited or not. It's privatly owned, if that means anything. I would like to continue to sub. teach, but I have a feeling I'm going to need to jump through more hoops to get there. I'm just not sure what the first step is. Does anyone have addvice or suggestions? Thanks in addvance. -Jen
Hi Jen, We have a couple of programs that might work for you. We offer a subsitute teaching class. Our class this fall is September 11-12, 2007. You can go to our website and look at the details. Go to [link removed]

You can find out if your school is regionally accredited by either looking at the regional acccrediting agency's website, or usually the school's website will have something. If you went to school in PA, that should be the Middle States Commission on Higher Ed. If it was another state, it would be different. WI uses the North Central HLC. These regional agencies are really the ONLY accrediting agency that matters. Most schools have some type of accreditation, like the "Distance Learning Federation," but that just doesn't count.
This is important, because I think your college credits have to be accredited to sub.

This is my 2nd year of teaching in the inner-city of Milwaukee. One thing I realized last year is that my kids really have no sense of what Wisconsin is like. Most of my students have never been more than like 10 blocks from their neighborhood; that is why I want to initiate a Wisconsin postcard exchange. Here's the deal:
If you send a postcard to us (preferably featuring the city you are from) with information about your city and school, we will send you one from Milwaukee in return. If you would like to do this, please e-mail me at: [email removed].
