Does anyone know of the physical address of DPI (WI's Dept. of Education?) I'm not referring to the Madison PO Box address or their Milwaukee address, but where their actual building is located. Basically, the place where they issue licenses.

A school district that has 8 elementary schools is hiring THREE teachers. So, they are only looking for three people, but 500 applicants apply for one job opening!--The 500 number is NO exaggeration! It's terrible.

Aside from graduate level courses, what are you taking to renew your license? Attending workshops? I'm trying to find inexpensive ways to renew my license. Thanks!!

I am thinking about going back to school and really want to become a teacher. I have a couple of DUIs and heard that schools wont hire someone with DUIs on there record in Wisconsin. Is this true?
If you have a "couple" dui's it does not bode well for your opportunity to become an educator. Everybody makes a mistake, getting a second (or more?), indicates stupidty and recklessness that won't be viewed upon positively in an educational, or any other, job evironment. If you have gone through extensive counseling/rehab, you may be able to turn it into a positive opportunty, but your attitude in your post gives me the impression you really don't care. I may be harsh, but I too had a dui many years ago and it woke me up to become a better parent/person/teacher.
Wish I had better news for you, but if I were you, I wouldn't waste my time or money on getting an education degree with your background. I do not believe it is illegal for schools to hire you, but morally you are not on high ground and they will see this too.
