Hi. We are possibly moving from Illinois to Madisen next summer. I was wondering if you are having budget cuts like we are or if you are looking to hire like Vegas, Denver, etc. Also, do you know if Wisconsin has reciprocal rights with Illinois? Can I get a probationary license or something without having to take a test? THANKS!
The job situation in Madison is bleak, $10,000,000 is being cut from the budegt. HR is using a new tool called the InSight test not the preciever before it is even possible to get an interview, no matter if you have experince or not. And yes there are content tests being used, and yes you have to have the correct license for what area you are going to teach, if you have education for a secondary area. It is requried that the teacher has a certification with DPI in that area. By 2005 all teachers who want to renew thier license will need an electronic portfolio, so that the Department of Public insturction can reevaluate you as a teacher. If you fail the InSight test which isn't scored it is interpreted, you must sit out the application process with the MMSD for two years.

I am very interested in Madison, both for the area's attractions and for UW Madison, where I'd love to get my Ph.D. in Literature. I am almost done with my M.A. in English Lit here in Washington state. I wonder what the job market is in the area, including community colleges, high schools, and as an adjunct at UW. Any ideas? I have a kid and I see your schools are highly rated! Good work! Melissa

My mom is a Reading Specialist and our state is thinking of eliminating all of the Reading Specialists positions in the ENTIRE state. They are going to sign the bill Jan 13!! We need to stop this. They are eliminating firemen, policemen, other teachers, and now this. What next? What's going to happen to our kids and our safety? And people wonder why our schools are failing?
You can write a letter to the following people if you agree that this position should not be eliminated:

My mom went to school for her masters degree to become a Reading Specialist and now it seems like such a waste, it's really sad. All of those thousands of dollars spent on an Education for what? How can they eliminate a position that is being taught in college? What is going to happen to the people of tomorrow? Will reading not be important now? Will other subjects not be important either? Will we have less and less policemen and firefighters?
