Hello from your neighbor from the south! My boyfriend and I are thinking about moving to Wisconsin next year and I am curious about the job market for teachers. Here in Illinois it is horrendous. I want to know if it will be the same in Wisconsin. We are thinking about moving somewhere in the Milwaukee to Illinois boarder area. Any info would be great!

I would say that there are more job prospects in the Milwaukee and southern area. It does, of course, depend on your subject area. Good luck.
Hey, I have another question for you guys. Where could I find information on what I will need to do in order to get a Wisconsin teaching license? Also, I have taken the Illinois Basic Skills test. Will I need to take a similar test for Wisconsin, or will the basic skills be enough? Sorry to be bothering everyone, but I am trying to get as much information as possible so I know what I have to do and how long it will take to receive the ok to teach in Wisconsin. I want to be able to start sending out resumes to schools around December.
IN wisconsin it looks near impossible to get a substitute teaching job without a full teaching license. So why would anyone want to substitute, if they already have a full license ?
sounds kinda demanding
good luck
in cali, all one needs is a CBEST, and a Bachelor's and you get hired.

A Praxis 1 & 2 are needed, passing a criminal background check, answering the 22 preciever questions now in the application, and then a person needs to take the Teacher InSight Test on-line (a.k.a. In Sight Inventory) it's a personality inventory. But the first three tests are just for the lic. The next are for if you want to just sub. And if you want to be a full fledged teacher you go through all of the tests before it's possible to get a face to face interview. Sorry. If the InSight is'nt passed you can't work at all in Dane county for two years according to Beth Weber in HR at MMSD until you can retake the test and pass.
I have taken the Praxis I test over 10 times. I passed the math with flying colors. The reading and writing I keep missing by one point. I really want to be a teacher. I have been a long-term sub for 4 years and want to get my certification. The only thing holding me back is my Praxis test. Is there any suggestion on what I should do? Is there anything that dpi could do to help me? Please give me some advice. Thank you.
I graduated with a BA in English in May 2003. And I will be starting my certification to teach high school English in May of 2005. I will be done May 2006. Can anyone get me in contact with someone who is an English teacher? And what the job market and demand will be for English teachers in Wisconsin?
I teach in Milwaukee and I would like to do a twist on the traditional postcard exchange and do an exchange within our state. Please!!!! email if you would be interested. I teach a 4th grade class and this would be a wonderful experience for our students to get to know our state better and fulfill some state standards as well :)

At this point I am just curious. I teach 4th grade in Southwest Wisconsin. How many people? How often?
Hi Linda, My name is Jaimie and I am looking to do postcard exchanges within the state also. I live by Wisconsin Dells, so I am sure that those would be nice for your collection. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks - Jaimie

I mentioned earlier that I am thinking into moving to Wisconsin from Illinois. I am having a hard time trying to find what the out look is for elementary teachers in Wisconsin private schools. Any links will help.
What is the bureaucracy of Wis. schools like? It is awful in Illinois. So much to the point that I am seriously thinking of giving up on teaching. If its not so bad in Wis. I think I'll stick with it, but Ill. has nearly killed me.

Call DPI, they will send you a copy of the "recommended" maximum class sizes. I believe that they also include multicategorical rooms. However, your district will probably just change your classroom into a "resource room" where the numbers can be huge--at least thats what my didtrict does.
