"People like you are just mad people work hard for a living and get rich while your lazy and dont want to work and expect the tax payers to give you a good life. If you dedicated yourself and worked hard you could probably become rich too but you would rather be lazy and get a handout."

In any case, I don't usually hang out on this board so I probably won't be back to read your response.

The notice that I was to be drafted seemed to me as if, [i]in absentia[/i], I had been tried, found guilty and sentenced to death for having been born here. America, the society â€œof the peopleâ€ into which I had been born, did not want my talents or abilities which had been honed in college. Through their representatives the people wanted to know, [i]vis a vis[/i] a multiple-choice test, only how I would be happiest being sent to die in a foreign land while suppressing a people seeking their own national identity free of foreign influence. Clearly as a college grad I understood the superlative of happy, which I was not going to be.

Of course, I was not the only one to face this undemocratic construct. In point of fact, over 55,000 Americans who faced it died and all the others who faced it were affected in some way, many horrifically. And hundreds of thousands more of the people who were defending their homeland from foreign (first French then American) forces were slaughtered. Civilization seems not to exist in America.

My initial response was to go into survival mode. I dropped out of the first and only class into which I had enrolled in law school in anticipation of being drafted immediately, as I had been informed would be the case. As my college education had been deemed worthless by my fellow Americans and since they did not want me to complete legal training, I never returned to law school, a fact for which I now am extremely thankful.

Ironically, the â€œrule of lawâ€ saved me from that fate, for had I continued I would have become, as is the habit of lawyers and judges (I repeat myself), a pimp to the â€œrule of lawâ€.

My encounter with the â€œrule of lawâ€ was with an unjust law which the pimps of the â€œrule of lawâ€ supported actively and tacitly. America was not under threat of invasion, yet American men between the ages of 18 and 25 were being drafted and sent to a foreign land to kill or be killed. Why weren't American women being drafted? Why weren't American men over 25 being drafted? Why was this constitutionally unsupportable class of people singled out by this legislation? The military had many non-combat positions which could have been filled by women and men of non-combat physical abilities of ALL ages and the draft, if it was necessary, should have applied to ALL, if the Fourteenth Amendment and the Constitution (the law of the land) were to have meaning.

I continued then in my current job. But that job was indirectly connected with the reason for America's presence in the foreign land and I eventually morally could no longer continue in that field as it was contrary to the needs of democracy. So I left that job and continued my career â€“ American worker. That career has given meaning to my college education, B. A. history.

As an American worker I discovered that I could not force an employer to reward me for my talents, abilities and education because the â€œrule of lawâ€ supercedes the propaganda that hard work will be rewarded.
