The rest of it is much ado about nothing if you ask me. Seems to be more smoke and mirrors. Shocking, huh?!?!?
Neither the WVAFT or WVEA seem to be saying much about the "raise" - lately. Curious. As I recall a few weeks ago; a $1000($500 for SP's)raise was part of the deal that came out of the "special meetings" those patrician want-to-be's were stipulating.
I know the silliness with Byrd/Manchin/Goodwin (and whomever the poor saps are that run for the "offices" effected by this idiocy) is what everybody is watching; but what happened to the Raises?

A pay raise was never seriously considered. He promised no more raises while he's governor. Not gonna happen.

I believe though that health insurance premiums are the same across the state - for your particular cost - you would need to contact the personnel office and get more information from them.
I've put a link to the county site with this post.
As far as how far money goes in Charleston - it's not the most expensive part of the state to live in (that's another whole discussion by the way) - does your wife work outside the home? Are you a beginner teacher or do you have several years under your belt - bigger paycheck - with graduate degree/hours?
Living in Charleston on a teachers' salary is do-able. Depends on you and your budget.
Good luck! Do you know where you will be teaching yet?
Hello! I am looking for teacher position in VA or MD near the DC Area. I noticed that VA seem to have many more openings, is that because VA has no union and no tanure unlike MD or even WV maybe? POOR TEACHER

Do you mean "tenure"?
Are you better off earning 40% more and having to live in an area that has a 50-60% higher cost of living, or living where it is as cheap as Wv but spending an hour commuting each way?
Some people do not kow how good they have it. I believe the parable is "the grass is always greener"...

Hopefully you are all excited about this coming school year! I know I am my usual excited with an ounce of anxiety! Even after ten years of teaching, I still feel anxious as each new year begins as I anticipate my new classes and all the new faces that will come in my classroom door. Still, I am comforted in knowing the anxiety will go away as soon as I settle in the routine of the school day and that I will then take on the anticipation for the coming school year and its challenges.
For new teachers, or those that just haven't found the comfort of the classroom yet, I wrote a book (A Lesson Plan for Teachers, New and Old) to help with the anxiety. It features chapters on many of the anxieties and problems faced by new or struggling teachers from working with parents and administrators to handling the paperwork required by the "job," including lesson planning, grading, and home reporting. Link to the publisher site to see a listing of chapters and to read a free sample of the text. With practical advice and real life stories, my book will help you find the happiness and joy you should have in this rewarding career.
The book is a quick and easy read; it is not an overwhelming catalogue of policies handed to you by most districts on these first days of school. In addition, it is very affordable for those on that first year teaching salary! It is available on Amazon or at the publisher's site, Lulu. At Lulu, it is also available in download format for a more economic option.
Good luck in this new school year, Michele A Lesson Plan for Teachers, New and Old: A Guide for Student Teachers, New Teachers, and the Experienced Ones!
Everybody needs to watch Fox news and stay clear of NBC, CNN, MSNBC and the like. Fox is the only channel that reports the truth and reports news that the mainstream refuses to acknowledge.

Every politician has to be thick skinned because, like us, they aren't perfect. I voted for Obama, knowing that he was inexperienced. He's made a lot of mistakes and admits none. Bush made mistakes and admitted none. Clinton did the same. Presidents are going to be criticized and know that going into the job. Thanks to the internet, new stories about them are posted daily for our kids to read. We cannot insulate high school kids from these stories, but we can provide them an opportunity to discuss them at home and in school.
If you think the high school teacher in question should be fired for her comments, just wait until your kids are in college. Your tuition fees will pay for political and social views that you never thought existed. It's just life in America!
