Teaching Without Certification

For those of you who are not certified, what has your teaching experience been like? What degrees do you have, was it tough to find work, was working in a private school enjoyable, how was pay, or anything else you might think is valuable advice. Thank you.

ex private school teacher Teaching is challenging and having or not having a certificate doesn't make one a good teacher. With a MS you can teach at a community college and the teaching cert. will allow you to teach at either a public or private school.

With a MS you can teach at a community college and the teaching cert. will allow you to teach at either a public or private school.

One of the biggest challenges new teachers face is classroom management and sadly, that isn't taught to you, it's something you have to figure out for yourself and you should have a pretty good idea about it before you step into the room on the first day.

Make an appointment to shadow some teachers at both public and private schools in your area to observe them in the classroom and talk to them. Talk to the university where you want to go about both options. In other words, do your homework and which path you take will become clearer for you.

Judy2/CA My daughter went to a Catholic high school and all the teachers were certified. The community colleges here generally hire part time instructors so many commute between colleges to make ends meet.
