Literacy remains an important concern in South African education, and I believe it deserves conversations that go beyond identifying the problem. As a future educator, I am interested in understanding how literacy difficulties affect learners across different subjects, not only English.

Learners need to understand what they read, interpret information, express their ideas, and engage critically with texts. These skills are particularly important in subjects such as English and History, where learners are expected to comprehend passages, interpret sources, and construct meaningful written responses.

I would love to hear from fellow educators: What challenges have you encountered when supporting learners with literacy, and what practical strategies have helped you improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills?

I believe sharing our experiences and approaches can help us learn from one another and explore ways to better support our learners...See More
