Lunch in classroom

A lot of charter schools are doing away with cafeteria and having students eat lunch at their desk. I think this is an awful practice and know that a cafeteria is unused classroom space. How do other teachers feel about this practice

Nancy Burrello The classroom is a good place to know if your students are getting good nourishment or not. It is not the best for the teacher or the student. Due to them being confined to one room all day. There is also a lot of janitorial work for the teacher and students. We do not live back in the one room school house days. This needs to be re-thought.

Judy2/CA Teachers in my district are guaranteed a duty free lunch hour. Instructional assistants can't be left alone with students - a credentialed teacher has to be present so your school's plan wouldn't work here.

My kids attended Montessori school No lunchroom/cafeteria. The kids could eat at one of the outside picnic tables, in a tree, on a bench, in their classroom or the classroom of a friend or sibling.
