EXERCISE ROLL CALL for Saturday

Yay, walked 90 minutes with a dear friend, yakkety yak. It's perfectly gorgeous here today, clear and 70 degrees. I'm wearing my new $90 Nike shirt that I got for $20 at TJ Maxx. So what if the ice maker (that we use all day every day) stopped working and part of a fence keeled over? I just have to take a deep breath and do what I can.

I found out from the e...See MoreHey, Judy, it sounds like we are having identical weather today. As for my day - OMG! I went out to the callout for new bike riders this am and chose the "easy" group rather then beginners. There were almost 50 riders in my group alone. I really struggled especially in the early hills of a planned 17 mile ride over two hours. I found out from the experienced riders that I was on the hardest gear possible, so I was shown how to lessen that on my 10 speed 40+ year old Schwinn bike. That made such a huge difference but before that I had used up quite a bit of my endurance.

I was surprised that I was having such a hard time. They also told me that my seat was way too low so I wasn't getting all the power of my legs. So, I learned a lot. We got to an intersection where the group broke up - some to complete the 17 miles and the rest to head back and do 11 miles. Guess which group I went with? Yep, I am not embarrassed to say I took the early route home. Even then, it was a struggle but I made it. The people were wonderful and the free lunch afterwards brought us all together to chat and have fun. I am really glad I went.

I talked to a former teacher pal who is a serious rider outdoors who was there. I told her how surprised I was at how hard it is compared to spinning class. (she goes there, too). She said it is because they focus too much on getting in miles with speed instead of putting on the higher resistance. It made sense. She said two of the instructors had tried this group and they too found out how challenging it was to ride outdoors. I felt better after that.

Grandpa is taking the oldest two now as I write to find bigger bikes. They both outgrew theirs and need a 24 or even 26 inch. I am looking forward to getting them to ride with me again. The bike club I went to this am has shorter distances to help new riders train and learn how to ride in groups. I hope to get the grandkids to do that with me.

I am enjoying my retirement BIG TIME, but I am afraid that I will soon have to buckle down and find a part time job. I am pretty sure which one I am going to go for. That would allow me to have all my free time to enjoy with the grandkids, but bring in some extra cash. I really don't want to start drawing from ss yet and I rolled over my pension and 401K into savings. I am starting to feel the pinch of less income.

So, my day, is great so far. We are going to one of our local fests downtown tonight which I am looking forward to. I have always had to work on weekend nights for so many years so I missed going to these night events.

Keep movin! (and I tried posting twice on my iphone and both times the posts vanished before I could finish writing the post. Evidently, there are still glitches using phones to post.
