EXERCISE ROLL CALL - Tuesday

I rode my bike to and from cycling class. I registered 17 hours on the spinning bike. It was a gorgeous morning. When I got home my granddaughter wanted me to ride with her to her first day of work so I did that. I am proud of her taking this on her own from now on. Maybe the lure of a paycheck will inspire her to look for other odd jobs this summer. She can babysit, too, but animals and pulling weeds is probably a better way for her to get started. I had been babysitting three years already at her age, but we are different and back then sitting was one of a girl's only choices for work at this age.

I went on a ten day road trip with my sister and mother. We left from San Antonio headed to San Diego. After 8 hours of driving, we were still in Texas! It was a nice little trip, but exhausting being in a car for so long.

The only real exercise I did was hiking at Torrey Pines. I did three trails and it was so nice. I hope to find places near me that I can hike. I won't have a ocean view, but I enjoyed this new experience immensely.

I go home last Wednesday but skipped the gym Thursday and Friday. Mom had a bum knee from so much in and out of the SUV during the trip and also got an infection so I didn't want to leave her alone at home.

Yesterday was spent remembering my oldest brother who died on Memorial day in 1983. The rain prevented us from going to the service at the cemetery plus there was no way mom would have been able to walk to his grave. We will visit when her knee is better in a few days.

So, today was the first day back in the gym in two weeks. I found a 12 week program that I started today. Here is what I did:

--five minute warm up on treadmill, 6 incline, 3.5-4.0 mph --barbell squats, 10 reps, 3 sets, 18 lbs weighted bar --walking lunges, 10 reps, 3 sets, 18 lbs weighted bar --incline dumbbell press, 10 reps, 3 sets, 10 lbs (1 set), 12.5 lbs (sets 2&3) --dumbbell fly, 10 reps, 3 sets, 7.5 lbs --wide-grip lat pull down, 10 reps, 3 sets, 50 lbs --seated cable row, 10 reps, 3 sets, 50 lbs

Between each set, there was a 60 second rest period that I found a bit too long, but did it.

Since I wanted to start this program on a Monday and skipped the gym yesterday, I did the cardio day as well. This involved 30 seconds of walk/run intervals 8 times. Once this was completed, I did 40 minutes at 60% of max heart rate. As much as I hate the treadmill, the weather outside was questionable. There is a storm coming and I didn't want to be caught outside since lightening is expected.

judycaret I hired a sub caregiver so I could take a short walk (30 minutes) and go to my oldies' exercise class. Doing okay.
