i need some advice about becoming a teacher/administrator

i am a undergrad college sophomore who is most likely going to become a teacher. My undergraduate major is Black studies and i have a minor in History. I am also going to go for a Masters in Secondary Education in Social Studies. My goal is to educate children from unprivileged inner city communities by either teaching in public school systems or creating my own educational institute and become an educator/administrator. i would also like to start a black cultural community center where there will be various extracurricular activities, volunteer work, cultural programs held there.

what steps should i take to achieve my goal.

Increase D Peace! I am also willing to receive a Ed.D in administration and leadership if i do go down the path of starting my own institute.

Student teaching will absolutely be one of those requirements; this will be a tough semester, but you will learn so much.

You're talking about secondary history -- traditionally, that's one of the tough arenas in which to find a job. The truth -- something that never occurred to me until student teaching /something that scared me badly: One of my favorite professors stood in front of an auditorium full of student teachers and said to us, "Your degree will never get you a job. Look to your left and your right. Those students, your competition, have the same degree." Yikes! He was right! He went on to emphasize that each of us needed something to make us stand out from the crowd, something that'd make a principal choose us. The single best thing that will make you stand out /get you a job -- be ready to coach a sport. Yeah, that's what the principal really needs -- I've seen teachers negotiate jobs for their spouses because they had experience coaching a sport.

If your goal is to teach, you're right to position yourself for one of the Big Four, but you should change your major to history. Yeah, the Black Studies thing may help you with your other goals (keep it as a minor or a concentration), but the history degree will get you the initial job you need -- the classroom job. Once you're hired, you could be asked to teach anything in the history department: American history, European history, Civics, etc. The experienced teachers will already "have claimed" their thing, and you -- the new guy -- will need to step into whatever opening they have.

For the moment, table your goals about an institute to help a specific group of kids. You really need some classroom experience before you can do that. Focus on Goal 1 first, and move on to that in the future.

For the moment, focus on the bachelor's degree and the teaching certificate. That'll get you your first job. Work a bit before you determine the direction you want to take for your other goals. Take it in manageable bites.

Finally, brush up on your grammar. Teaching is all about communication, and lack of capital letters is a big red flag. Don't fall back on "casual communication, message board". If you're a clear communicator, your grammar should be so automatic that you don't have to think about it. Very important.
