Bio | Richard Cain was born in Santa Barbara, California and grew up in Michigan and Indiana. He earned a bachelor's degree in history from Cornell University (1978) where he concentrated on Russian and Chinese Intellectual History. He earned an MA in education from Duke University (1979), and an MA in journalism from Indiana University (1986). He was a journalist for 13 years working for the Catholic press and then Director of the Communication Program at Wheeling Jesuit University for 20 years. Not content to kick back and retire, he now teaches math, science, and social studies in Pennsylvania. His research interests are new media, media ethics, and the philosophy and theology of communication. One extended project has been exploring how new media can help the National Park Service better interpret wild places through the Internet. He lives in a Nature Conservancy in the Laurel Highlands and loves all things outdoors—including backpacking, whitewater and sea kayaking, rock climbing, caving, and cross-country skiing—especially on downhill slopes. |
