Is it possible to add early childhood education certificate to my interrelated special education p-12 certificate (highly qualified in all 4 core subject areas) by passing the GACE, or would I have to enroll in some program as well? Looking to switch from a co-teacher to elementary school general ed teacher.
HappyDays You've probably already found the answer to your question, but for anyone else that stumbles upon this, yes there is a way to add Early Childhood to your certificate but it is a weird process. Beginning this fall (2017/18) Georgia is offering a TAPP program for the Early Childhood add-on. I am in the process of moving from Middle Grades right now. ...See More

I am 47 years old, married, with 2 sons in middle school. Teaching is my passion but with all the BS paperwork I'm not teaching. I teach first grade in a Title I school and I spend numerous hours at school and at home just doing "school work." I am on 3 different medications to help me with anxiety and struggle with depression. I've never...See More

    Hello,

Does anyone know how it is to work in either Fulton or Gwinnett Counties? I'm a language arts/ESOL teacher. I've heard good things about Gwinnett. How about Fulton? Thank you in advance for any information you give.

ATLTeacher Fulton is nice thought it can be rough in some schools. The district overall operates well and teachers are paid decently.

    Hi,

My wife and I recently moved to Cherokee County (Woodstock GA) and are having trouble finding her work. She has all of her teaching certifications, a bachelor's from an accredited school, and is working on her master's degree from the same university. She's also going on two years of elementary school, self-contained classroom, special...See More
missy Your wife is trying to get into the two counties everyone else wants to get into so that they can leave their county. I would suggest she try Bartow, Pickens, and other neighboring counties to Cherokee. She might have better luck.

ATLTeacher I know this is late but a good site to use is teachgeorgia.org. Special ed is usually a field in demand so it might have just been that area.

Hi is anyone in GA a member of the MACE Teacher advocacy group? If so, I would like to know if you are satisfied with it.

ATLTeacher I'm not a member but plan to join. I have seen them in action at my school and they get out there and picket with signs. The conditions at the school were bad-lying principal, forcing grade changes, harassment, etc. They picketed the principal twice. One time, early in the morning, they were outside when teachers and students were arriving and the ...See More

I think the state base pay on my contract has been wrong for 7 of my 13 years. I work in a public K12 county school district.
ATLTeacher What did you end up doing to rectify the situation?

Why do administrators not score TKES 5 and 6 as often as they do with the other standards?
ATLTeacher Interesting question. Possibly depends on the school or principals.

Got this in an email. Thought I would share it. It had foot notes in the original.

Did you know the author of TKES, James Stronge, says your review is only effective 75 percent of the time? This means 1 in 4 teachers who receive “ineffective” or “needs improvement” scores are unfairly punished. For more information on problems wit...See More
