So I had to wait until December 2019 to finalize my application for DoDEA schools because I had to find out if I got certified as a National Board certified teacher or not this month. I kept seeing people mentioning already getting offers and I am now worrying that I missed the train!
Should I just not hold my breath to hear back from DoDEA? I cannot find a list of current teaching vacancies anywhere on the web either. Does this mean they've already filled the positions?
Also, am I understanding it right when I thought I read somewhere how DoDEA schools don't count any of the years of experience off-DoDEA school campuses?
Can someone please pass on the HR Application contact (specifically for USAJobs)? I know it has been posted, but I can't find it. Wish there was a search function. Specifically, I have a question regarding my deemed "Illegible" application, thought previously, it was considered.
TheMiddleI think one of my uploads for an ISS/AP job was "illegible." Interesting thing is that I used the same document to apply for my currently held teaching position. I'll take your advice and see if there's a specific contact listed on the job listing. A friend passed on one possible contact. Looking for a Europe HR contact.
HelpOthersThis is probably a late response, but for ISS positions, make sure you are prepared to answer anything related to the questions/job description for that specific position.
1.) How does the travel allowance work? I believe that it is every two years and to your "home of record"? Do they monitor where you go with it? Or can you use it to travel to other places? Is it a sum of money that gets added to your paycheck? Or do you apply for reimbursement?
2.) Based on what I've read, since I would be a "new government employee," it seems like I wouldn't be eligible for RITA to be reimbursed for the taxes on my move and temporary housing benefits. Is there anyone who can speak to this? I know that there are people on this board who just joined DODEA OCONUS this year, or maybe veteran teachers who are in the know. :)
RJGood question, it depends. After October you pay DODEA, before that, you pay the IRS. Google DFAS RITA, although you may not be eligible for RITA, the website has a lot of info about who and how to pay. Not all amended W-2s have gone out yet.
HelpOthersMy understanding is that if you apply for a position, it is not considered management directed. However, a promotion might not need to be management directed. Please ask HR to be sure.
I just recently completed my application (hoping I clicked the right stuff) and submitted it online (like an hour ago). I'm very new to this process and would appreciate anyone who could guide me on how this works, what should I look for, how long I should wait, blah blah. Thank you fellow educators for your information and assistance!!
I submitted my application a few days ago, so new to the whole process. I'm currently in NC interested in moving to Japan. I went to Japan over Thanksgiving break and did a few interviews at some international schools, but they were not a good fit for me and the pay was very low. So here I am! I know I have to be open about where I could be placed, but anyone have any insight on how desirable Japan is for others? For example, I feel like the majority have interest in Europe and it can be tough getting there, is it the same for Japan? Also, is it appropriate to reach out to principals via email to introduce myself and let them know I am interested? I normally send my resume, cover letter, and online portfolio. Thanks in advance! Also, I'm a 6th year elementary school teacher if that matters.
teachandtravelI am currently on Teach Away and in the process of completing my Search Associates profile, so I can try and get registered for the upcoming job fairs.
If you do get a job stateside, most of the time they will not pay for your relocation correct?
Will they pay for housing or COLA?
How do they break down the pay scale for each location stateside or is it computed by degrees and endorsements one may have ?
Sorry about all the questions, I am debating on whether or not I should select some stateside locations along with the overseas locations I have selected.
TeachinYou also have to consider that if you already have 10 years of non fed teaching experience, every year you are working outside of the system doesn't count toward pay inside. So, by taking a domestic position now you would bank years of experience if you did get picked up for a foreign post in the future.
If you have Veteren's preference, it only helps to get into an organization, so you may not want to use it to get in Stateside if your true desire is to go overseas.
However, as BusinessShan stated, the years working with DoDEA stateside will count above the non-DoDEA years for your starting pay overseas.
Some administrators look for people who are already in DoDEA and others avoid them. Either way, having great references and resume may help change whatever mind-set that individual already has.
Finally, if you don't want to go somewhere do NOT interview. If you decline an offer, your application will be frozen for the remainder of that school-year. Principals also see this and may decide not to interview you at all even after it is unlocked.
This position is open to current DoDEA Europe Region Employees.
Federal employees in Ankara, Turkey are currently entitled to receive a 10% Post Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary (rates are subject to change).
This is an unaccompanied assignment. Family members are not eligible to travel to Ankara, Turkey or as a dependent for command sponsorship.
2. Will I be contacted with orders and travel process or do I need to contact the departments listed in the email?
3. I've seen on earlier posts that there are facebook groups for specific questions about the specific locations. Is anyone familiar with one for Kaiserslautern? I have questions about housing and buying a car.
4. How can I find out what reading program they use at the elementary level? My daughter is in Kinder so that is so important for me right now.
I appreciate any suggestions or answers you are able to provide.
Thanks for letting me know about the years of experience. I hope I hear back from DoDEA schools soon. :)
