I also don't believe that there is a mandatory retirement age for most federal positions.

There is no age at which DoDEA mandates an employee retire.

I believe that you could only narrow it down to country without changing to local hire status. I know that you are only supposed to switch to a local area once you have orders but have heard of people doing it and it working out for them. Something to consider as things get closer.

You can narrow down by country and choose not to accept interviews in locations that would be too far from your expected location.

Ah, OK. You could just ignore it without likely consequences then. Agree that you should run the numbers just to have a point of comparison to your current situation. .5 teachers get .5 benefits from my understanding (although I do not know exactly what that translates to).

The government's portion for a full-time employee is more than what the employee pays. However, If you are employed 50% (0.5), you get 50% of the government's portion. I understand exactly how you feel. I can't seem to land the elusive offer at my location. I made a referral list this year , but never contacted for an interview. They hired a stateside applicant. We're for sure leaving now next year. Maybe I'll have better luck elsewhere or we'll back in the states where there are so many more opportunities.

It's not over yet. Hiring continues much later than you might think. People don't return as planned, some retire mid-year, and sometimes the enrollment is higher than anticipated and warrants another position. Just be flexible if you want a position in DoDEA. Most people had to leave their current schools mid-year.

The qualification questions on the application and the description of the position may also give you some guidance. I suggest you type or very quickly right the entire question and make sure you answer all portions of the questions. This is important.

I guess the flight info that they initially forwarded on to me did not meet some final approval so they changed it for me to depart tomorrow. Which is frustrating bc the school already arranged a taxi and hotel for me and now they have to change it. Now I arrive the day before school starts...

I think it is appropriate to contact your school and ask them for a sponsor/mentor. I also suggest signing up for the Facebook pages for your new community.
