What happens when you resign from DODea (OCONUS) to return to the states? Next year will be my 3rd year and if I am not enjoying it by then and don't get a CONUS position am considering just packing up and going home. Will our HHG be shipped back? When would I need to put in the resignation letter? That makes me nervous.
How are staffing changes determined as far as SCD? I have a combo of 8 years in DoDEA. 5 years overseas and 3 years stateside with DoDEA but only 1 year at my current school. Would I be bumped from my position to a different grade level before someone who has 4 years at my current school (and 4 years in DoDEA total)?
Some ask for volunteers. Some try to base decisions on seniority in DoDEA, seniority in the building etc. but many do whatever they want/think best and use whatever rationale they want to offer (if any). Hopefully the decisions are fair and based on student need, best allocation of resources/teacher skills, but some will just come down to who they like, don't like, parent complaints, etc.
Does anyone know what the status of the excess placement process is or if they have started looking at new hires yet? Specifically in Germany. Thank you!
And yes, they are hiring. It has started. That has started across the board, although as always, some Principals and Superintendents are slower to hire than others. They always have an excuse for their delays.
It's not in DoDEA's interest to point out their bad hiring decisions, or to track teacher turnover. They get rid of people as quietly as possible, and those people are quickly forgotten.
Some firing decisions are justified. Some leave other teachers puzzled. But the secrecy of HR decisions keeps it all very, very quiet.
Can you be hired with just the Praxis tests (no state license)?
Little back story: I have a Master's Degree in Education and am currently working on my PHD in education. However, I have always worked in Montessori or Private schools that didn't require me to have a state license. I am working on getting my state license but wanted to see if the Praxis exams would suffice (my state is very slow on getting anything done/answering questions).
My father is retired Army and will be working in Europe as a civilian and I would like to be able to move with him and my family. Thanks!
But check the other requirements very carefully to ensure you have all the correct education courses they require.
Following your family around as an adult is not going to be easy. A more reasonable plan might be simply to be in the same Area. Don't plan on being on the same base, or in the same country.
DoDEA is a much, much smaller organization that when your father first joined the US Army, so getting hired, and moving around is far more difficult.

In the Pacific, we haven't heard much about SLP or SPED being reduced/excessed (at least within my knowledge/experience). There was word that School Psychologists and ESL teachers were going to be spread more thinly (like 1 per complex) but there was maybe some walk back of that decision for next year.
There have been more excesses (specifics varying by school) based on drops in enrollment and some apparent cutting of some electives (and adding of others), but again, tough to understand the big picture from our viewpoint. It fits with the general pattern of asking school level staff to do more with less, while above school level staffing seems to hold steady, or even increase.
