She has been in special education for 10 years and has a masters. Are there typically openings available for special Ed or are they few and far between?
I have been lurking the threads and there is a ton of good information here. Thanks for all the input. It's been very helpful. Also, if you have any other advice or resources we should check out the feedback would be greatly appreciated.
From my experience (and what I see, hear and read), casel...See MoreI teach Learning Strategies (basically a resource room class that students take as an elective) at a high school in Japan (one of the bases in the Tokyo/Yokohama area). My caseload has varied wildly over the years from 10 (when there was another teacher sharing the caseload) to 29.
From my experience (and what I see, hear and read), caseload will vary quite a bit based on location, grade level and from year to year.
Many SPED teachers could have self-contained classes (size could vary from 1-8) if they work with more specialized/involved students.
Hello, I received an email from an ISS application I turned in. It said I was tentatively eligible for the position, but then below it, it said my referral status was not eligible. I'm confused....
IdaWhen I received that email I interpreted it as: you are eligible for the position but you were not referred because other people were more qualified. I am not 100% sure that is what it means but that is how I took it.
HelpOthersYour eligibility may need to be out of the "tentative" status in order to receive a referral. With the ISS positions, the way you answer the questions about experience are used to determine whether you are eligible and whether you are referred.
IsItFriday?None of the three is famous for the quality of their education. My coworkers usually pick the one with the lowest tuition and fees. It's just a paperwork requirement. Why overpay?
hahaFrom my limited knowledge/experience (having students who were taking classes through the virtual program), you would be facilitating classes in different subjects for multiple students. I have no idea how many subjects/classes each teacher facilitates or how many students would be in a class. I believe the teachers work out of different hubs.
HopingForNewsI saw the same ad. I added "Virtual School (Teaching Online)" as a target job. Then I checked the three Virtual School hubs in the Desired Location and Date section. I will also call the HR number on Monday to ask how long it will take to verify my qualifications for the Virtual School teaching category.
Also, I have my application in for school counseling positions in middle and high school. Has anyone heard of a school counselor being hired? Am I hoping on a really long shot?
My question is, if I do end up getting an interview, what is the proper way to decline? I understand that declining after the interview and after being offered a position is not good and removes you from consideration for other jobs that year or longer. Do you just reply to the interview request email with an apology email or is there another way that is better? Thank you in advance if you have advice on this.
WaitingOnGodotIt's a beautiful area. I lived there for 5 years, but not on the base. Be sure to visit Historic Old Town Bluffton and Hilton Head Island.
HelpOthersBecause the offer comes from HR, they usually know that there is already one pending and will usually not offer both. However I think ONE person mentioned that they were allowed to choose between two that came in at almost the same time.
Has there been any cases where first year teachers has been hired for secondary math or science? or do they need at least 1 year of experience or more?

Generally they have happened when someone has student taught with DoDEA/that school, has some type of networking/connection and/or is in a high needs/hard to fill area. Being a local hire, military/civilian spouse also doesn't hurt.
You never know what can happen so by all means keep your application in and try and maximize your chances.
DDESS employees, what happens after the background check? Passports are still pending-does it really take 6-8 weeks? Will we make it for the beginning of school?
