With the school year overseas just ending, do you think it will take a bit longer than normal for principals to set up interviews and such? Are they possibly taking a quick breather before jumping into hiring for the new year?
Here's an interesting study. Get ten teachers to randomly walk into their school ten times over the summer between the hours of 8 am and 3 pm. How many would find the principal on the premises. My best guess is that the answer is close to 25%.
As for hiring. Some do it early, some do it later, and for many it's not a choice, as they can only hire when they get clearance from the management types above the school level who hold and release the FTEs.
HelpOthersYes, thank you for asking the questions. This sounds like what I have heard/understood. I am a little surprised about the randomness though. I thought there was a method where Veterans and people with multiple areas would appear on the list first.
The application system is supposed to be a clear, and well defined process. And many Admin types will try insist that they understand the process, and that if you only submit to their mentoring and guidance, you too will come to understand the system. But that's complete nonsense.
The contradictory experiences of the posters here suggests that there is no "System".
Is it random? Well, not exactly. But it's clearly not a well thought out system. It's Friday, so I'm in a great mood, but I am shaking y head in despair at the idea that any of us have a good handle on this application process.
Answering questions about certs and the interview is one thing, but beyond that everyone has had very contradictory experiences with the system.
hahaI believe that all elementary classroom positions are listed that way (other than specialist positions). They generally are not multi-age but could be any grade 1-5. Occasionally they do a split class with two grades in one class if the numbers warrant it (e.g. 2/3, 4/5, etc.).
Is there a specific form that DODEA requires for a divorced parent to take their child overseas? Would custody papers and a travel agreement drawn up by a lawyer be sufficient?
HelpOthersYou may want to get the tourist passports now, which will require both parents to be present or one with form signed by the other parent. See the passport websites for the form that must be notarized. This will prepare you for the process needed for the official passport later.
the Dodea, do I get offered some sort of retirement contribution? I make $44,000 now and would like a better salary but also want to get retirement funding. I am 49. :)
SanDiegoTeacherHaha- Thanks for you info. It seems I might have a better chance once they evaluate my transcripts, but fingers crossed something comes up. What is the tag line you see in an email if you get a referral? I get a lot of email that goes to SPAM so I want to know what I am looking for just in case.
HelpOthershaha, HAHA LOL :) I agree with both of your replies.
Firearms will depend on the country and or base/post rules.
It is a great idea to have tourist passports for everyone in your family and even worth getting the passport card as additional forms of government identification.
