Is there a specific form that DODEA requires for a divorced parent to take their child overseas? Would custody papers and a travel agreement drawn up by a lawyer be sufficient?
SanDiegoTeacher I was wondering that too. I have sole legal and physical custody and my attorney just drafted paperwork that my ex signed and notarized stating he knew I was going to travel/relocate out of state or out of country. I hope that is enough. Now I am just hoping to generate some interest off my application.

LolaTeach If you have sole custody, you court order will be enough. If you have shared custody, you need permission in writing and notarized, by the other parent.

educatormama Thanks for your responses. We share custody currently but he is supportive of the children moving with me if I get a position abroad. Do you know if I would have to go and change the custody agreement in court in addition to a notarized letter?

someday I think it may depend on who reviews your paperwork. There was another poster here who had issues. As soon as I got my offer I went and filed a relocation agreement signed by the other parent at the courthouse. I also made up a relocation agreement form and had him notarize it. HelpOthers You may want to get the tourist passports now, which will require both parents to be present or one with form signed by the other parent. See the passport websites for the form that must be notarized. This will prepare you for the process needed for the official passport later.
