How long after an interview should you expect a tentative offer? Will they notify you if you're not selected? I've interviewed for several positions and was just curious? Also the tips for interviewing were spot on, thanks @haha
IdaA new fun obsession is checking EAS after an interview. Usually a day or so before you get an email offer, your account is locked and it states the DoDEA staff is processing your application.
Also, how to transfers work? If we take a location in the states or overseas that we don't want, is it easier then to transfer to another location? I know there's no favor shown for overseas to states movement or the other way around.
If you are not open to living and teaching in a place...See MoreThere is no transfer round right now. We are hopeful it might be reinstated at some point but it is not something you can count on. When it was in effect it did not include DoDEA Americas. You may still get referrals or interview requests no matter what you choose as a target location.
If you are not open to living and teaching in a place for at least a few years (and possibly quite longer) then it does not make sense to put it on your EAS.
Some questions popped into my mind over the past few weeks, hopefully you all have some fabulous answers!
1. Is there any preference given, or disqualification for that matter, if you have a spouse who is not a teacher? I know for most int'l schools, they want teaching teams or single teachers, and you're pretty much out if you have a non-teaching spouse. Is it the same for dodea?
2. For current DOD teachers who have seen the changes, and most of the recent changes seem negative (excessing teachers, bigger class sizes as a result), have you ever seen it swing the other way? With different leadership potentially down the road, do you anticipate seeing more hires and smaller class sizes?
3. Someone suggested I add a SS component (I am currently qualified secondary French, Language arts, and working on k-12 esl and TAG) Do you know of any online only schools or other avenues to add the Social studies endorsement ?
hahaNo problem. Accredited graduate credit will always work, and would also be good in the long run to move up a salary lane (BA+15 credits, BA+30, Masters+15, Masters+30).
I'm keenly interested in teaching opportunities in Japan. My in-laws are Japanese and aren't getting any younger. Being close to them now would make my wife's day.
Is there a way to know of what job openings there might be for 2019-2020 school year in Japan? The Kanto Plain would be ideal, but we are open to all of Japan and Okinawa.
Last year (and maybe the year before, they start to blur together) everything seem to be moved up a month or so, with some movement happening in April and the bulk of hiring starting in May and running through August.
So far, it seems like things have reverted more to the first scenario with all of the excesses needing to be placed before they could evaluate and start working on openings for stateside hiring. And some Districts have just/recently put out lists of openings for current DoDEA teachers in the area to consider so that will likely slow thing up a bit more (which would suit you).
This is all just based on my recall of the situation over the years. I don't keep exact dates or a journal on it (surprisingly :S :D). Mary or someone else may have a different thoughts/recollections.
HelpOthersRecruiting from stateside occurs after all excesses are placed, manpower decisions are updated and local qualified candidates are considered. I think that is about now for Japan.
I have so many questions and am glad to find this forum. Any tips for an upcoming telephone interview? I have a great deal of teaching experience (US, AP, IB, 20+ years) but have not interviewed with DoDEA before. I have always thought of the DoDEA as the 'Holy Grail' for an American Teacher. Any insight welcome. :)
As for a search function, it would be useful (unless I am missing it too). The options seem to be to use the Topic List/Post List view or to google teachers.net and DODD and whatever topic you are looking for specific information on (some posts come up, some do not).
HelpOthersOnly the last few posts are available here through a search, but I have found much older ones through internet searches that included "teachers.net" and "DODD"
The SpectreI also wonder about people who had signed to go to another school earlier in the year, and then had backed out because of getting a DoDEA offer?
We almost faced this as I had interview...See MorePretty much the same story. Some admin/owners are understanding, others less so. There really is not much they can do to affect you if you are going to DoDEA. If you ever wanted to go back to int'l anytime soon I suppose someone could make it a little difficult or unpleasant for you (but likely not).
We almost faced this as I had interviews with some great schools in desirable locations leading up to getting into DoDEA. We were really disappointed not to get those jobs but realized it was a blessing in disguise as I really would have hated having to back out of an agreement if a job had been offered (but would have done it).
The only hold up with online is that sometimes the email will go to people's spam folder. You can always go with the online route and then check in with the referees to make sure they got the email (and if it seems there might be a problem, take further measures).
The SpectreI am an IB Physics teacher in Dubai and have a DoDEA interview coming up. Not getting LQA would be a dealbreaker for me. Should I be the anointed one and receive an offer (BIG IF), receiving LQA would be my first question. Will HR be able to answer that question? Joe Wachs comment above makes me think this might be a pointless exercise.
hahaHR should be able to answer the question for you. It costs you nothing to go forward/ through and see what happens. Better to know now when going through the actual process rather than just getting a hypothetical answer from HR which can be unreliable.
