Sorry to be a newbie...but if we did get an overseas position:
1) Can you bring anything? Do they offer some kind of a storage pod that you can fill and they will deliver?
2) Can you bring a car? Will they ship it?
3) Is base living free, including all utilities?
4) We are a family of 4. Is base living houses or apartments?
5) If we lived off base, does the allowance cover all rent and utilities?
6) Will the military fly you home yearly in the summer to visit family? Could we stay in the states for a month or so, visiting family?
7) Is there anything else I'm forgetting?
We had been pretty sure we didn't want to go overseas...but we both love Europe and Asia and we're now open to that possibility.
I was recently informed that I should take a career counselor class for three units and in doing so would have the career counselor endorsement with the DODEA. Is there a strong demand for this endorsement?

WanderlustMathlete... I'm qualified Preschool, Kindergarten, and Special Education. Most referrals that I have received is for Preschool Children with Disabilities, but the two most current is for Elementary Special Ed.
Having a hard time with my transcripts. First they said I didn't have any elem math or reading, which I do and then I asked them to re-evaluate and they asked for course descriptions. I have a master's in education and a bachelor's in liberal studies and have been teaching for 15 years....this is weird.
Sometimes it helps to try and get the person in charge of your file on the phone (initials usually on your EAS) and have them look at your transcript as you go through what you think should be counting for the areas they consider you deficient in (credit wise).
They want what they want when it comes to the required courses and will not generally look at your overall degrees or education and make a determination that you "should" be qualified for that area. Hang in there and keep trying.
I recieved two referrals in Fort Bragg this past week. They're both for Special Education positions. No, calls or emails as of yet from the principals.

Basically, click ONE TIME ONLY on the comment button, even if it seems like nothing is happening and/or your comment did not post. If you want to be sure, open up the page in a different tab and check so that you do not lose your comment.
Or just click away. Makes the board seem busier than it is. :D
Is there a document that specifies RAT year. I'm at a 2 year location but started after the SY started. Coming from DDESS. Some people said I have to wot an additional year, which is fine. I just want an official answer, not hear say. Who would I contact?
hahaAsk your HR representative and your union rep. I have seen the actual policy in the past that says that for tour of duty credit purposes, a full school year equals 175 days in a pay status but don't know for sure that it hasn't changed or how applies specifically to your situation.
24. Travel and Transportation. Employees recruited in the U.S. for overseas duty are required to sign a transportation agreement prescribing a period of overseas duty which must be served before transportation between the U.S. and overseas is authorized at Government expense. PL 86-91 educators must complete 175 instructional days to receive one year of credit toward fulfilling their transportation agreement.
kiki08I never received a referral list notification & got an email with the subject "phone interview selection." I didn't open it for two day bc I thought it was spam. I'm glad I did bc I interviewed & got hired.
