With more than the usual number of excessed teachers to be placed this year, they also might find it more expedient to NOT fill mid-year open positions with new hires (so that those positions could be filled by excessed teachers for next year).
These outages are quite annoying and coming fairly frequently these days.
So, we got this disappointing news over the weekend (purely coincidental timing, I'm sure). The transfer program is cancelled for this year. Allegedly they are going to come up with a new and improved version of the program, after program analysis of information gathered from an independent consulting firm and other sources but no fixed date on when that might happen.
I'm generally a pretty positive person but have to say that this was very disappointing. We knew that when they put out their own survey to the teachers with no input from the union that they were basically going to use it as cover for whatever they had already decided but I was still unpleasantly surprised by this.
The program was certainly not ideal but at least it was something and it would have been nice to continue to have some type of program in place while they came up with an alternative.
There are a significant number of teachers needing to be placed this year from Seoul closing and the discontinued FLES program so they will need to use other means to make those placements. Hopefully, they will take people's preferences/needs into account to at least some degree.
HopefulTeacherWow! That's an interesting twist for this year. I wonder how that will affect teachers wanting to come into DODDS. Would it mean the same amount of new hires, or less or more?
hahaTough to say. Probably a wash, with maybe a few more stateside hires (depending on exactly how many excess teachers end up needing to be placed after positions in their local areas are filled).
I got to my new job overseas, but now I get emails about a possible RIF. How concerned should I be about this? I am a special ed teacher in the middle school level.
I agree with haha - It sounds pretty unlikely with words like "contingency planning" being used by the union no less. I do recall some management level reductions/streamlining that happened the last few years? I cant 100% recall if it was also tied to the new district names and stuff though I think that was the case. I would guess if anything was reduced it would be more stuff like that with reduced EDC and things of that nature.
I was trying to research but I couldn't find what action is precipitating the DoD to plan for a reduction in funding. Does anyone know? Last I knew the 2019 defense budget was actually larger?
He tweeted yesterday "...The U.S. spent 716 Billion Dollars this year. Crazy!". I still haven't tied everything up but i'm guessing it's a play for the wall or shutdown on the 20th or something along those lines.
Though the speed of the planning and notifications and request for input from the union feels pretty quick for one tweet yesterday.
Here is another question: if you interviewed and was not selected will the principal send you an email stating you were not chosen? I Interviewed almost 3 weeks ago and have not heard back. I did write a week later and was told a decision would be made soon but no possible dates. Should I assume I was not selected?
The reason is that in theory. principals rank the candidates according to their preference/choice and HR makes the final decision. so the principal may not know who was actually hired until they get the word from HR that the highest rated candidate passed the screening/eligibility requirements. HR notifies the successful candidates by making a tentative offer.
In practice, this will usually be the principal's first choice candidate. Yes, principals COULD then follow up with the unsuccessful candidates but this generally does not happen. Keep checking back with HR, eventually they should have good or bad news for you.
I have heard of automated responses coming out based on the original referral list once a position has actually been filled, but it is very inconsistent.
newdodea12345Haha, I truly appreciate your time and thank you for taking the time to give such a thorough answer. I get the sense that I did not make the cut, but still need to know as I would have to give my current job enough notice. I'm going to try my chances with HR. Wish me luck!
Has anyone recently tried to apply? When I try to select my areas of interest, it doesn't show any Gen or ESL K-6 teachers. It only shows Elementary Language Immersion? I selected them because I am currently a dual language teacher - Spanish side, but wasn't sure if anyone can offer some advice? Thank you all!
hahaIf you are talking about adding Target Jobs, I still see the whole list. Maybe log out and log back in. If you are looking at it on a Ipad, etc (if you even can) sometimes their version of drop down lists won't go all the way down). Other than that, not sure what else the problem could be.
I was put on a,referral list 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I haven't heard anything about an interview. I know that not everyone gets an interview, but my question is should I stop looking for it? Does it normally take longer than 2 weeks?
IcanreadOften times (but not always) you will receive an automated email that will tell you you've been placed on a referral list. If the principal chooses to interview you, she/he will email (or sometimes call) you to schedule one.
dramaIT WORKSSS!!!. haha you are the best. Ifix everything, find my school and nos I can rest. Lol. Should I leave it as Worldwide or go back to local or it will make no difference? Thank you , thank you again.
hahaNo problem. It depends on what locations you really want to be considered for right now. It looks like if you want to be considered just for Americas/PR you would leave it set to Worldwide, but with only the places you want to go checked/selected.
About a year and a half ago, I turned down an offer for DDESS position, I realize now it may have been a mistake. I called HR to check on my EAS application, and I was told I have an "exception" on my file. Should I be concerned? Has anyone ever heard of this? Does that hurt my chances of getting hired in the future?
I've been in the pool for around 6 years now. 2 years ago I got 2 calls, but turned them both down for an interview because I just got hired somewhere else. I think that was a mistake, but I didn't think it was ethical for me at the time to interview after I'd just signed a contract with a local school district. (I got both calls literally the week after I signed my new contract in early July.)
Now it's 2 years later and I'm going to try for the last time this coming school year. We're interested in NC, VA, and TN. We really want Camp LeJeune!
I updated my application last spring (around Feb/March) and everything is still showing as "pending". Was not too worried because thought it would be a long shot because I'm still adding certs and finishing my masters. Think I'll have a better shot this time around but everything is still pending. Who should I contact to look into this? Thanks!
