Question about post allowance. Are we supposed to get it while we are still in temporary housing, and receiving TQSA, or just after we move out? I was thinking the latter, but my husband said the principal told him to sign up for Post Allowance now. (We are in Japan and moving out of the temporary lodging into a house on base in 2 weeks.)
hahaMy recollection is that PO should only kick in once you are off of TQSA but could be wrong about that. You could always sign up now with an effective date of when you are actually moving out. Maybe someone who has done it more recently can comment.
Anybody on this forum has a combo of certs for HS math&science? Or just HS math? A Dodea HS in Europe has two such openings. Wish this info would be beneficial for somebody looking to work for Dodea.
IcanreadYou could contact the principal, but the general info is that they can't interview you unless you show up on their referral list for the position...
hahaAgree it probably wouldn't do much good, BUT it also isn't likely to do much harm at this point. If your name does show up an a referral list then an email might make your name jump out and at least get you an interview. If you are feeling bold, go for it.
LindseyOf course I don't know for sure but for APs it looked like it was a 222 day position so that would be a month or so off. For principals I would assume they are a 12 month position. Maybe someone currently in a position would know for sure.
hahaAdmin do get some time off during the summer. They generally coordinate between principal and AP (if there is one) so that one of them is always there over the summer.
Will I get reimbursed for all the passports and passport photos for the official passports? I assume I'll pay for travel passports but the official ones I should get reimbursed for rifht? When and who do I request that?
hahaThere should be no fees for the official passports. The pictures are not specifically reimbursed (to my knowledge).
There is a general Foreign Transfer Allowance that you can file for to offset the costs of moving to a foreign country that could be up to $1300, depending on your personal situation.
My boyfriend also wants to w...See MoreOk great! I'm qualified K-8 and I really like kindergarten and have a few years experience also. (I've just fallen in love with prekindergarten the last couple of years!). I have a music minor, but good idea about taking some course this year. I could do it in time for the next hiring process next .....April??
My boyfriend also wants to work for dodea and he is an AP history teacher, but he only has 2 years experience. He also has a masters in education. He probably has a better chance? I could just follow him because I know it's hard for couples to get jobs.
Also, being married at some point would be very useful sinc...See MoreAP History is good but many teachers will also be teaching a range of SS studies classes so he should also maximize the areas that DoDEA considers him qualified in (many teachers get hired to teach a few other non-SS classes as well, so anything else he could add would be great).
Also, being married at some point would be very useful since you would generally otherwise not be able to go on each other's orders.
Wait for your your orders. Immediately upon receipt of orders Google and get the contact info for the on-base post office. Contact the PO and tell them you are PCSing Inbound and want a POB. Follow their instructions and they will assign a box. Get your stateside mail forwarded, and change the mailing address on cedit cards etc.
The school may offer to do this for you, but so what. Why involve a middle man who will then spend the next year reminding you how "helpful" they were. Start out on the right foot and ask for as little help as possible,
Changing state residency? No one can answer that question definitively. Do your research. The rules are different, and are applied differently in every state. 50 states - that's a lot of reserch. Get busy.
But if people change their state of residency, they generally do it BEFORE they move overseas.
Our home of record with DoDEA was FL (even though we hadn't lived there for quite a while as we had been teaching overseas with int'l schools) so we just left it there. As posted, the rules/procedures vary from state to state. If you will have no property, no utilities, etc. in your name, or permanent address you can use, it might be a little trickier (or easier) depending on the state.
hahaThey calculate our pay based on the average of the top 100(?) school districts in the states with a population of 100,000 and this information is normally not available/calculated until May. So, we generally get retro pay back to the beginning of the year, every year.
IsItFriday? It'll be frozen if the Director gets his way. Whoops, did that sound negative? I didn't mean to me. I hope the Director doesn't read this. I want to be a good employee,
hahaOpen an account at one of the banks or credit unions on base at your new location. They generally offer good deals if you sign up for direct deposit of your check and you can generally withdraw foreign currency or dollars with no fee.
