Good day all. I am an assistant principal at a public high school in AZ but like many of you interested in making the switch to DODDS. I was wondering for those who already have positions what is the biggest difference you have noticed or what is something you just weren't prepared for. I am the widow of an Air Force retiree so I understand the military structure, bureaucracy, and systems but wondering more about the actual school structure. My kids weren't school age when he was serving so I didn't get to see that side. I am trying to anticipate what an interview for an assistant principal position will look like and what areas I may be deficient in. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Icanread I believe the AP pool on USAjobs.gov closes today (Sept 17th) - so make sure you get your application in fast if you haven't already applied!

Lindsey Thank you Icanread. I have completed my application. Praying I hear something soon. I only selected Europe schools though so I know that limits me.

???? Just curious...does Principals have to stay at their duty station all summer over seas? I didn't know how that worked.

Lindsey Of course I don't know for sure but for APs it looked like it was a 222 day position so that would be a month or so off. For principals I would assume they are a 12 month position. Maybe someone currently in a position would know for sure.

haha Admin do get some time off during the summer. They generally coordinate between principal and AP (if there is one) so that one of them is always there over the summer.
