HelpOthersThe drivers license for your teen is good advice. In my local area, they can take a AAA approved driving class and receive a certificate showing they passed the test. This gives them a SoFA license they can use while here. I have not been told to have her carry the certificate with her, but she is not 18 yet, so can only drive on base anyway.
and @haha, yes, it actually does make me feel better. I guess with just seeing mainly the experiences on this site it's sometimes hard to remember that there are MANY others who are going through the process and each one can be different. I believe she will be positioned well for graduation (in advanced classes and prior credits from middle school) and the experience itself will be so valuable for her education if it all works out how I hope. The "getting there" hurdle seems the main concern/question/unknown. Like I said before, if it were just me, it would be much easier to "go with the flow". If it takes three years to get hired, by that time it WILL be just me!
Do DODEA teachers qualify to use Space A travel once we are overseas? If so, can the whole family use it? What if a spouse was travelling without the actual teacher?
HelpOthersWe do qualify for Space A, but are very far down the list of availability, so traveling this way during peak season is rare. Also, we can only use it overseas. Once we hit US soil, we are on our own.
I interviewed for an SLP position in Japan and have not had follow up (approx 3 weeks ago). It is my first choice location, but I am trying to make decisions about other interviews. Does anyone know if this position has been filled? TIY
So I have been researching online and found some info about certain states in the USA having full reciprocity with Germany. My state is one of them. It says you can go to your local Fuhrerscheinstelle and apply with documentation. Has anyone been through this process? Thoughts?
somedayYou are going to be there under the SOFA agreement so I don't think that will work. You have to get the USAEUR license for driving in Germany and also carry a valid state license.
Have any of you experienced being locked out of your account? I did receive an email about 2 openings and if I was interested, I could go in and change my target locations. I didn't make any changes, but see that my account is locked. :(
HelpOthersUsually when it is locked, this means HR is reviewing your file to potentially offer you a position. If you have not interviewed, you may want to call HR to find out what is happening.
HelpOthersDDESS is part of DoD schools, so just chat with us here. You can also look into the Facebook pages, but they are only for people with a connection (current employee, past employee and those who have been offered a position).
Anyone here in that area now or in the past? I would live to know things that you wish you packed from the states or things you could of left when packing. I have a large family and trinhg to downsize. Just trying not to bring extra crap but that seems Inevitable

The AP stated at the end of the interview that it could take 2-3 weeks for HR to notify the person who will be getting the tentative offer. Friday will be 3 weeks. However, I am seeing a few posts on here with teachers getting offers 2-3 days after their interview, but these seem to be stateside and Europe. My wife and I have talked about, strategized, dreamed, etc. with each other, but now that it has taken this long, we are hoping for someone else's take on it. I think we've exhausted all we can talk about on this with our limited knowledge. My questions are 1) has it been too long? Is she most likely out of consideration or is this a somewhat typical turn around time? ( I know from reading posts on here that you aren't always notified when the position goes to someone else.) 2) Are there possible reasons that could delay an offer for this long, that could point to her still being in the running? 3) Finallt, how long should she wait before calling to see if the job has been filled and should she contact HR or the school itself? Thanks to anyone who can shed a little light on this situation!
world2goThat information was perfect! Thanks! We're starting the process on her today. Glad to get a little bit of a jump on it while we're still here.
So how does the application scoring go? Could one part of your application, like your references, keep you from getting hired? Also, just talked to HR and they are no longer hiring for the 18/19 school year.
MandyI spoke with HR today in Virginia, and they are still filling positions for 2018-19. Also, I know that there is HR in Peachtree City, GA for the southern region of DoDEA America's. I worked with them the last time I was hired with DoDEA for fort Campbell.
