hahaNever heard of the 5 bags. We have had very different results depending on the airline and the person working the gate. Sometimes we were given what was on our orders, sometimes they have been fairly nasty in pointing out that their policy of extra/overweight bags applies only to military.
Also, if it is on your orders, you will be reimbursed even if the airlines do charge for your bags.
The confirmation you need is your orders themselves, so the earlier you have them the earlier you will know the number of bags and how many pounds of HHG, etc. are approved.
I will be reporting to my new school soon. Do DoDEA Americas teachers get issued laptops upon arrival or do we have desktop computers in our classroom?
I just found out about USA jobs. Do you apply separately from the EAS website or are they for the same application? How are these different than the DODEA ?
hahaYou generally cannot apply for DoDEA teaching positions through USA Jobs. Even when positions are posted there they generally say to apply through EAS.
FYI...I just came across this document. Wanted to share for others who may not have see it. I wish it could be pinned to the top of the forum like in Federal Soup; there forum is so much easier to navigate lol
HelpOthersThat link is specifically for people on-boarding to DoDEA HQ, not other locations within DoDEA, even though they mention moving expenses etc. that as far as I understood would not be covered for those already in the USA. So strange. However, the links are very helpful within this document.
Has anyone been put in this situation? If so, how soon did you put in your notice once you received a firm offer?
Also, once the EQIP email comes, how long does it take for it to process and for you to receive the final offer? My plan is to inform my principal once I receive the EQIP so she isn't blindsided, and go from there.
I know that it'll be worth the wait, but in the meantime, it's been pretty stressful. I'm working on learning how to have better patience since I've been waiting on EQIP for about 7-8 weeks now.
Me: Math certified (secondary); been teaching middle school...See MoreHaving just learned about DoDDS, I spent the last few hours going down the proverbial rabbit hole, reading and learning all that I can. Absolutely interested in applying for SY19/20. But of course I am a tad confused about some details about making myself an attractive candidate.
Me: Math certified (secondary); been teaching middle school math the past 4 years.
From what I gathered, even though math is highly sought after, it would be advisable to get certified/endorsed/qualified in additional subjects (say, science). Makes sense. But here's where I get confused. How does DoDEA define "qualified"? X-amount of college coursework? Passing the PRAXIS subject tests? And are there other, secret ways I don't know about?
The verbiage on their HR site did not help at all so I'm hoping that one of you kind human beings can help clarify that for me. Thanks in advance!
TL;DR: I'm certified in secondary math. How do I get additional certifications?
Some additional questions: 1) How attractive ...See MoreThank you haha for the thoughtful response, you're setting me on a path! I definitely qualify for both middle and secondary math (majored in math) so my next step is to qualify for the "low hanging fruit," as it were. For me, that would be computer science and another science (likely physics).
Some additional questions: 1) How attractive is the computer science qualification? Is there a push for more CS education in the secondary level?
2) I'm in a state that will certify me in other subject areas by passing PRAXIS exams. Assuming I do that-- say, for physics-- how many of the 15 CH need to be upper-division coursework?
Based on what I have seen/experience, CS is a good field to have. There would generally be fewer positions at a given school than science positions, but during the transfer round announcements for internal candidates, I have seen quite a few positions with CS as one of the combinations. 21st Century education is a big buzz word these days so anything computer related would seem to be very useful.
The upper level requirements are not really clear. Different posters have reported hearing different things from HR. Some have said that the upper level requirements are also cut in half, others report that the upper level requirements are not reduced. You might want to try emailing or calling HR and seeing what answer they give you.
On average (lol), how long (days, weeks, months) is/has it taken to receive e-QIP access following your PSIP email? How long would you wait before following up?
