I am always reading about "what qualifications do you have". I have 18 years of teaching , K-12, mostly in 1st grade. I don't have any other qualifications that I know of. What does everyone suggest, that I can be working on to put towards my application for appeal and need.
Mrs.CWhile I don't have specific local hire information, I do know that spousal preference regulations say you can use it up to 30 days before arrival.... it would (kind of) make sense that if you can claim spousal preference only 30 days in advance that you might also be able to claim local hire ahead of time? Could a call to HR provide more insight?
Can anyone tell me anything about MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, or Matthew C. Perry school? Is it a nice place for a family with kids? General pros and cons compared to other places?
Long story short, Japan is a great place to live. Iwakuni can feel small and isolated, but is actually very close to some great site-seeing adventures. A quick internet search will show what great sight-seeing opportunities there are.
Getting around outside of base is generally very easy. Longer...See MoreI would second everything Mary has said. Iwakuni is a nice base with a lot of new schools, construction/projects going on (visited for sports trips). I've not heard anything bad about the base or schools there. There seems to be a lot to do in the community and surrounding area.
Getting around outside of base is generally very easy. Longer travel is generally fairly easy in Japan but can be a little intimidating if you aren't used to it. It is getting even easier with many more signs, etc. being posted in English with the Olympics coming up.
Japan is a great place to live and work, with or without kids.
No, AVID is a specific class for certain students (not gifted, not SPED generally) that teaches organization, study skills, etc. It generally can be added by attending a 3 day workshop. Many schools have it as a .5 position which makes it a good area to have.
Mary-Thank you for your answer. I do have orders. They say Oct by we are authorized 60 days earlier. Do you think that will be a problem? Also, I tried to set up an account on here but I never can activate the acct because I never get the authorization code. It is not in my spam either....
Speak2meMrs.V-I had problems with the auth code also. I used the code at the end of the link that was sent in the email and it worked...it's the series of numbers/letters after the "activate/-----" on the link.
I'm starting to lose hope. Interviewed two weeks ago (tomorrow) and I have heard nothing. Trying to stay positive. This move overseas would make such a big difference for my family. Trying to stay positive but being in summer break with nothing but time to think is making that hard.
I am a SPED teacher and am from FL. I know teachers that teach Hearing Impaired students. It seems to be a relatively high needs area (hard to find qualified teachers) but also has relatively fewer positions compared to other subjects.
Private schools used to have more discretion in who they hired (so could possibly more readily hire a Canadian teacher) but also more discretion in which students they admit (so generally take fewer students with significant disabilities).
I'm not really up on the current high needs areas in FL but Sarasota sounds about right.
If you haven't already, go on to the FL DoE website and go through the information about Foreign Trained teachers and see what seems possible or doable for you:
