CoPurryI interviewed in late March for Europe and got the tentative offer a little more than a week later. It seems if you're the top choice, the 'it" person, it happens fast and everyone else is waiting because it's about 3-4 weeks before the background check clears and you get the permanent offer.
I am currently station in Europe with my spouse who is active duty . I had an interview back in December for a kinder position . The teacher decide to come back so I didn't get the position . I still had an interview and it went really well . About a month ago I received a referral email for a kindergarten position for the same school . Would I receive another interview ?
I would email the principal and touch base to keep your name on the radar for this and/or future positions if nothing else. Just draft a quick note reminding him/her that you previously interviewed for a K position and that you received another referral notice a month ago. You just wanted to touch base and see if there was a position that was still open. If not, you hope he/she will keep you in mind for any future openings.
Asking anyone but Mary and Haha if you have any ideas great. Ok so here are some classes I have pulled from my transcripts. Would you all think any of these could count towards other SPED qualifications? I would think so but so far no luck with HR. I thought they might take SPED 3420 toward my EC (for PSCD) but they won't since it says Early Elementary and not Early Childhood in the title...)
So I'm just trying to see before taking more hours than necessary what night work where if you guys have any thoughts.

and SPED 3360 [3]
SPED 3210. Management Procedures for Academic and Social
Behavior. Application of behavioral principles in educational settings.

are required. Students apply their skills in classroom settings. [3]
SPED 3420. Recommended Practices in Early Elementary Grades

I also took SE 301 Introduction to Exceptional Learners for my bachelor's degree.
Would this count towards any SPED certs with DODEA?
Introduction to Exceptional Learners. 3 Semester Hours. (LiveText required.) Field experience is required. A survey course which addresses etiology, identification, incidence, curriculum modification, parent interaction, placement options, and inclusion of all types of educationally exceptional learners in general education settings.
hahaSPED 3330. Characteristics of Students with Intellectual and Multiple Disabilities should count towards Mod. to Sev. and probably Physical and Multiple. I used virtually the same class for those three. I had to resubmit with the syllabus and all of the key words high lighted (multiple, physical, intellectual, etc.).
I will be applying for a teaching position and/or an instructional specialists position in the fall and I am curious how the application process works, specifically, how location orders are determined.
1) Do I get a preference regarding location or does the DOD determine a location on their own?
2) Am I told the location before I sign the offer letter (if a position is offered)?
3) Does the DODEA wait for the position application deadline to close before reviewing applications?
4) How competitive are these positions? I have a Master's degree and almost ten years of teaching experience.
Thank you in advance for any information you have!
You can select target locations and list the countries/regions you would be willing to move to. You may get offers to interview for locations you did not select. The more regions you are open to, the better your chances of being hired.
You interview for/receive offers for specific openings at specific schools/locations.
There generally are not publicized ads/job openings for teaching positions (and so no real deadlines). The USA listings for teachers are really just calls for people to apply to the EAS application system and those applications become part of the general applicant pool. They are not for actual specific locations/positions.
There are generally 10's of thousands of applicants in the candidate pool and so it is very competitive. Your education and years of experience are just fine and would be competitive with many/most other candidates. The key would be your areas of certification. Some areas are in higher demand and/or have fewer qualified applicants in the pool. Generally, having more areas of different certifications is better than fewer.
Many people wait years for an offer. Many never get one. Some people get hired rigtht away. Regardless, people get hired every year in pretty much every content area so most anything is possible.
2) Yes, you will be told the location of the position prior to being asked to sign an offer letter. If you turn down an offer, you may not be asked to interview again for the remainder of that school-year, so only interview if you think you will accept the position. You should know the location before you interview.
3) When hiring through USA Jobs, yes, they wait until the window has closed. However, there is no window for hiring through EAS.
4) Positions are very competitive. Most people wait several years before being hired unless they get very lucky or have very odd combinations of certification.
Hi all. What is the latest time after which my application won't be good for the 18-19 school year? due to a glitch with a state Dept of Ed in adding a subject to my license, the end of April final filing I was expecting has become an end of May filing.
tony75Hi Mary. Thanks, this is very useful since it looks like my application won't automatically be disqualified. Even though it's a long shot, a fumbled application means no shot at all :) I appreciate the help from you guys (and the other replies to other candidates) very much; thanks again!
I was looking at my referral Emails from last year, and it looks like they started on May 1st. After that, I received quite a few, all the way until the end of June.
Does anyone know how many days you have to work in a school year for it to count towards a full year? My first year teaching I subbed in the room long term and converted to the full-time teacher after winter break. I know there is usually a minimum number for it to count as a full year.
DoDEA only counts "full years" apparently for experience towards your salary Step. I've seen various numbers of days thrown around (e.g. 145-175) but I'm not sure exactly what they require.
Maybe someone can get a call/email into HR and see what they have to say.
HelpOthersI would only call if you are questioning the completeness of your application. They can let you know if your references have been returned, and you can talk to them about qualifications, etc., but I would not call just to call.
First, thanks for all of the advice and encouragement offered on this chatboard. I've been told to have official transcripts ready. Do I have these transcripts mailed to me and then I just don't open them or do I need to have them sent to DoDea?
Go ahead and order your marriage certificate. You will want an official copy in your fire proof safe anyway. Keep your passports and birth certificates there too. You will not need the marriage certificate or birth certificate to be hired. You will need your social security card and government ID. However, you may need the marriage certificate for benefits, can't remember. You may also need it if you choose to live on post (or base).
GinaThank you so much! I've been able to put my hands on all of my certificates and they're safe and sound in our safe. Fingers crossed that this hold is lifted soon and I find something out. Good luck to everyone else who is playing the waiting game, too.
