Some people get on referral lists, get interviews and/or offers right away. Some people wait years. Some people never get any type of interest/response.
One thing you can do while you wait is to try and add some other areas of certification. Being qualified in more than one area definitely increases your chances of getting some opportunities with DoDEA.
ScholarNo. I had requested my references and one was filled out but the system didn't acknowledge it. This hiccup only showed up during my inprocessing so I needed to resend it and have it refilled out
hahaTough to predict the future obviously, but the PCSD is definitely a nice cert to add to the mix. It still requires a bit of luck but you certainly stand as good a chance as anyone of at least getting to an interview (and better chance than most).
Interestingly, I got what I think is a referral e-mail this morning, but it is from a country that I do not have chosen as one of my targets. Is this usual? The e-mail seems legitimate.
somedayWell I received an interview request so I am going to accept. Its a bummer that bike Grrl and I both want to be there and have science and they can't hire what they need. If I am meant to be there I will get there eventually.
Once an employee is hired, does the DoD offer any educational assistance for continuing education? How much? I'm curious as this will impact how I currently spend my remaining GI Bill. Thank you!
HelpOthersDoDEA does not, but several colleges offer discounts to DoD civilians (including DoDEA). Continuing education in DoDEA only counts if you receive college credit, so the discounted ($65-90) one credit-classes often offered are helpful and add up over the time period needed to re-certify.
teacherlife62411Liberty university has several programs tgat are completely onkine, abd they iffer a 50% discount to DOD teachers. You just send in a pocture if your CAC card.
The nearest I have heard/read is that your EAS results in competency, etc ratings that can be used to determine who makes a referral list, who gets picked for an interview, etc. Things that contribute to a higher score seem to be numbers of certifications, level of education and items indicated on the Skills and Activities/Additional Experience Information.
I could be way off base on some of those but it's as good an answer as any until someone in the know shares their wisdom with us.
I have a question. I have a teacher with 9 years experience and I put in application for overseas. I chose for the eval to be sent to my Principal for verification of work history. That was a week ago....he still hasn't got it...How long should that take? Is this usual time frame?
Did you have a good relationship with this principal and can trust them when they say they never received the eval request? In that case I would repeat the process and have another eval request sent out.
You can have a max of 4 evals but you need a minimum of three.
Have you fulfilled the criteria for that section? Send out 4 requests and don't rest until 3 of them have been completed. If you are not lucky with the automatic feature, then use the downloaded version. If you mail them splash out on priority mail and track them.
If you've only ever worked for one principal. then send the other evals to assistant principals. If you get desperate use dept chairs.
Remember you're not actually in the game unless you have completed your EAS. It's a bit of effort so if you don't really want the job, then stop now.
hahaGenerally it's been more for wannabe DoDEA teachers to ask questions and post about the process, who is getting referrals/interviews, etc. Many of the wannabes are actually now DoDEA teachers and the circle of life continues when they come back to post and try and offer assistance to the next generation of wannabes to get hired..
