hahaUSAA insurance (if you or your military parent have/had a policy with them). If not, there are usually insurance agents on or very near base that are used to working with Americans and will generally take good care of you..
hahaGood point possibly. If not, new hires should be covered by a different Miscellaneous Expense Allowance of $1300 for PCS moves to their first posting. As I recall (now that you mention it :S), you just had to file to claim it and did not need to provide receipts.
As always, a good idea to ask HR if you have a specific contact.
HelpOthersAs for the receipts. Take a photo with your phone, so you have the image ready to upload or add up when needed and you don't have to worry about losing the pieces of paper.
Once I finalize my EAS application, is it too late to submit a transcript? I am taking two courses which should add some certs. But the courses won't end until next month, and it would probably take a couple of weeks before I get transcripts showing the coursework. Should I apply asap or wait until I have my transcripts?
micorazonkilleenContact the secretary at the school where you were hired. They can contact HR for you and get a response for you regarding fingerprint cards if you can't get one. And, yes, HR was furloughed due to shutdown but is now back in business...
What visa do DoDEA Japan teachers receive? I already have a marriage visa in Japan, but does this change or become a military visa?
Do DoDEA teachers recieve discounted flights back to the United States? What are some perks to the DoDEA Pacific in Japan?
It seems like a silly question, but I am curious. Does fluency in Japanese have any benefit at the American base schools? Are most/all business conducted in English? I currently work in a 75 percent Japanese environment at the University, and conduct most day to day in Japanese.
What is the average salary of a high school teacher with 6 or so years teaching experience on a base?
I am finally finishing renewing my 7-12 licence in March, and I am filling out the experience forms to add to my state license. I am currently a University Assistant Professor in Japan, but I am very eager to teach social studies again, and start applying to work for the US government.
Many principals seem to place the highest value on recent, relevant experience and certifications that give them some flexibility in hiring, scheduling, etc. Others principals are impressed by other factors.
HelpOthersI agree with what was said before about the likelihood of being considered a local hire, so make sure to review the contract that sent you to Japan. Only being certified in SS is a disadvantage. You may want to review the qualifications for other areas, maybe even Japanese to see where else you might qualify.
I pulled my application today, and noticed everything is unchecked. Is this the email resubmit that usually comes out in February? I didn't get an email, but it looks like everything has to be checked again.
HelpOthersMake sure all the locations with the school-year listed show the upcoming school-year (2018-2019). There is one location on your availability page and then on the document upload page there is a school-year next to each uploaded document. You need to upload each one again, even if there is no change in order for the year to change.
How long do official orders usually take once you've passed everything and received the firm offer? HR said they requested my report date for February 20, but I need the orders before I can really do anything.
TheMiddleIt all depends... some people take months and some weeks. I got hired late in the summer and interview to me on a plane was about 3 weeks! Somehow they got me there in time... so you're probably fine.
HelpOthersI hope you were able to travel. If not, stay in contact daily with your HR person. Pay attention to the time difference and try to e-mail early in their work day.
I am the spouse of a DODEA teacher and we live overseas. If my husband, who is now my sponsor, divorces me, can he send me back to the States and keep the kids here? Do I have any rights at all and what should I do? I need help.
hahaUsually you would be looking for some type of GS level job. Sometimes some of the MWR jobs also would let you stay. Base may have an employment office of some type. Start there is there is one. Also, many jobs are advertised on USA Jobs.
I have updated by application as HR has requested. With all of my attempts, I have never had an initial placed by my qualified areas, muchless a name of person to contact who had looked over my application. This will be my third year trying for a position. Should I continue trying or just realize that it's not going to happen for me? Thank you!
If you application i...See MoreMake sure the e-mail address on your application is correct. Also, only list a phone number where you can be reached at all times (cell phone). If you list a home phone and they leave you voice mail and you do not hear it until evening, you may miss an opportunity to interview for a position. This happened to me once.
If you application is final now and set for the 2018-2019 school-year, I believe you are still in the running. I believe the Feb 2nd deadline was for those looking for positions during the 2017-2018 school-year.
