Also, What's the deal with APO boxes? When do we get those? And is that the address we'll use for ALL our mail needs while in Guam?

USAA insurance (if you or your military parent have/had a policy with them). If not, there are usually insurance agents on or very near base that are used to working with Americans and will generally take good care of you..

Good point possibly. If not, new hires should be covered by a different Miscellaneous Expense Allowance of $1300 for PCS moves to their first posting. As I recall (now that you mention it :S), you just had to file to claim it and did not need to provide receipts.

As for the receipts. Take a photo with your phone, so you have the image ready to upload or add up when needed and you don't have to worry about losing the pieces of paper.

You should be fine to submit your application now. People often upload new transcripts as they pass classes and get the transcripts.
Just hit re-evaluate on the quals page once you upload the new transcripts.

You must upload something that you title transcript in order to finalize your application. You can make changes to that document later.

Contact the secretary at the school where you were hired. They can contact HR for you and get a response for you regarding fingerprint cards if you can't get one. And, yes, HR was furloughed due to shutdown but is now back in business...

I hope you had this resolved. I believe most sherrif's offices and military facilities have the same fingerprint cards.

It's impossible to predict really. Everyone faces long odds of getting hired due to the large number of applicants and small number of jobs.

I agree with what was said before about the likelihood of being considered a local hire, so make sure to review the contract that sent you to Japan. Only being certified in SS is a disadvantage. You may want to review the qualifications for other areas, maybe even Japanese to see where else you might qualify.

Make sure all the locations with the school-year listed show the upcoming school-year (2018-2019). There is one location on your availability page and then on the document upload page there is a school-year next to each uploaded document. You need to upload each one again, even if there is no change in order for the year to change.

It all depends... some people take months and some weeks. I got hired late in the summer and interview to me on a plane was about 3 weeks! Somehow they got me there in time... so you're probably fine.

I hope you were able to travel. If not, stay in contact daily with your HR person. Pay attention to the time difference and try to e-mail early in their work day.

Usually you would be looking for some type of GS level job. Sometimes some of the MWR jobs also would let you stay. Base may have an employment office of some type. Start there is there is one. Also, many jobs are advertised on USA Jobs.

NAF positions will also allow you to stay on base and I think provide you with SOFA status. Again, check with the JAG office.

Make sure the e-mail address on your application is correct. Also, only list a phone number where you can be reached at all times (cell phone). If you list a home phone and they leave you voice mail and you do not hear it until evening, you may miss an opportunity to interview for a position. This happened to me once.
