Can anyone tell me how to find out the amount of household goods we can take to Okinawa? We are trying to decide what we should keep and what we should buy there.
HelpOthersOften you can find floorplans for the area you want to go. You can find them by searching the on-base housing and by searching move.mil or even by asking on the military Facebook pages (even though we are not military).
It has been my dream of becoming a DODD teacher for over 10 years, ever since we were stationed in Okinawa (back in 2005). I will be done with my Masters before my husband retires and I was going to apply for a DODD position in the 2020-2021 school year.
What steps should I take now to best position myself to be hired as a stateside hire? Will they hire me if my husband still has a few months of active duty left? (We would be geographically separated for that time.) Does being military affiliated help in any way? Does it hurt if I'm a new educator? Is a Masters in Special Education better than having a Bachelors with 2 years of teaching experience of Social Studies under my belt? Are there any other endorsements that I should consider obtaining that would make me highly desirable?
Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated to help me realize my dream of becoming a DODD teacher.
You do not need to share your ...See MoreTeachers with multiple certifications tend to be hired more quickly than someone in only one specific area. Also, DoDEA has specific classes you need for SS, so make sure you have taken them. Special education is always a greater need than SS in most districts including DoDEA, but still not a guaranteed hire.
You do not need to share your personal life, like you being separated from your husband during those few months. They will not ask you anything like that, so you do not need to offer it. You do not receive orders and DoDEA does not pay your relocation costs when you are moving to a stateside location.
As an aside, it seems like ND is one of the states that often is looking for teachers and will hire you for the position while you are awaiting your certification. You may want to contact someone at your district office.
hahaDays, weeks, months, depending on the time of year and your certification, in some cases. Sometimes not until you call and/or email and ask someone to look into it. Generally it gets done in a couple of weeks.
HelpOthersIf you have stated you are qualified for a position they need, this may speed up the process, but usually at least two weeks. Feel free to contact and ask them, but I wouldn't do this too often.
LiteracyRocksSo, at the bottom of the email was an email address I could use for questions. I sent an email and explained what was going on. I didn't get a response, but last night was the first night that I didn't get one of the email notifications. SO strange! I hope something isn't screwed up!
HelpOthersIt does not look like something that you should be receiving related to your EAS. I'm not sure how they got your information, but if you do not receive any additional e-mails, I would believe they were not meant for you. You may just want to call the DoDEA HR number in EAS and ask them.
hahaActually, what was said was that you need to upload an official transcript (one that you had opened and scanned in) with your application. If you were later selected you would be also required to mail in an unopened official transcript.
Did you upload an official transcript for your EAS?
HelpOthershaha is correct. You DO need to upload a scanned (color) copy of your transcripts in one document if possible. Make sure you request additional official copies from each school, so you can present the Official/unopened copy when the school asks for it- or when you are ready to put in for a pay increase after taking additional classes.
somedayThat's true it would be fruitless to leave a job that you currently enjoy to maybe get an overseas location. I didn't apply for any stateside because I really wouldn't make any additional money and I am happy where I am at. There is so many factors you need to consider and it really is situational. Your insight is always appreciated.
4 Advantages: 1) Your years in DoDEA count from the day you start working for DoDEA whether this is stateside or abroad. If wanting to work overseas, your payscale will only credit up to 10 years of Non-DoDEA experience, so if you have close to or more than 10 years teaching experience, working for DoDEA stateside will count above those 10 years when you are hired abroad. While stateside, only 5 years of non-DoDEA experience is credited on their payscale (which is different).
2) If you do NOT have Vet preference, you will not need to compete with those who have Vet preference, because this is not considered when people within DoDEA are being considered.
3) If your position stateside goes away, DoDEA will make an effort to place you elsewhere within DoDEA and sometimes this means being sent overseas.
4) If you are a great employee and let your stateside supervisor know you want to go overseas, many of them will vouch for you, because they usually have been overseas and understand the desire. This gives you an opportunity to really learn DoDEA's goals, mission, rules, regulations, expectations, etc.
