The bigger issue is whether or not your stuff will fit in your new home. I suggest checking floor plans on base and asking people who live off base, about how many square feet they have.

Good point. Housing does vary quite a bit by location. As I recall hearing, housing is generally larger in Okinawa than mainland Japan. 3 and 4 bedrooms, 1800 to 2000 sq ft. seemed pretty common.

I lived in on-base housing in Okinawa from '05-'09. Housing is small on base, but teachers were offered the larger homes, if I remember correctly. If I were you, I would not take my full weight allowance. Often you can find floorplans for the area you want to go. You can find them by searching the on-base housing and by searching move.mil or even by asking on the military Facebook pages (even though we are not military).
