Just curious if anyone has heard anything about schools providing more mental health supports for students next school year? I'm a school social worker and I'm hoping schools will be looking for more support this upcoming school year. Thanks!
PalmatThanks haha! Openings for this position are a long shot but that hasn't stopped me from shooting my shot! Hoping there is a shift any an opportunity appears. This is the second year I've had my application in and I've receive one referral to date. Fingers crossed.
HelpOthersAnd unfortunately in the overseas areas where EDIS offered social work support, they have stopped providing it to DoDEA schools. However, they may be offering it through the medical side, outside of school.
HelpOthers@TeacherToAdmin, moving from the classroom to ISS or admin position is considered a promotion and is one way that people are able to move to new locations without a transfer round. I believe those positions are usually applied for through USA Jobs rather than EAS, so that is one reason that movements occur.
hahaInteresting (and sad to hear). Maybe because they were being denied a promotion or lateral move, rather than initial employment with the federal gov't? Or simply confirms that everyone has/has heard their own story and so much (way too much) comes down to some individual's interpretation of policies/procedures.
I would only accept a position in a location that could clearly meet the needs of my child. My child comes first. This has to be a personal decision; however, and not one made by the hiring official. It clearly says in our paperwork and in the UsaJobs paperwork that not all areas can support all needs and it is our responsibility to ensure their needs can be met.
If you were active duty military, the EFMP process could be used to prevent you from moving to a location where the needs of your child could not be met. However, civilians, although notified of the situation, may choose to go anyway.
Again, this does not mean it's the best choice for your child. If DoDEA must hire a new teacher and provide a new program just for you child, they may go through the efforts of doing this. However, does it make financial sense for DoDEA, and again will it mean no community supports?
I would suggest learning about the specific locations that can better meet your child's needs and only applying to those locations. However that would be my own personal choice. You are free to make your own decisions.
I am writing for clarification. If you get a job in Guam or Puerto Rico will you/won't you receive moving allowance/housing etc if you are coming from...let's say New York? ....do they assist you in some way in finding a place?
HelpOthers@KMC moving from a teaching position to an admin position is a promotion, so even though the transfer round is not occurring, you could potentially move to another location through a promotion. Therefore, I would accept a position in Ankara (if I had not dependents) in a heart-beat.
I'm interviewing for a position in South Carolina. Does anyone know what my salary with be with a master's degree and 9 years of experience? Also, do they provide housing?
HelpOthers@BlueSky. The relocation benefits are only for leaving the Continental USA. The housing benefits are only if you are recruited from the USA to live in a foreign country.
Yes, I know that Guam is supported by DoDEA Pacific West (previously South), but it is under the DDESS negotiated agreement. Similarly, Cuba is supported by DoDEA Americas, but is a foreign country under the DoDDS negotiated agreement.
KMC@haha yes, I know I was surprised to hear the process from the Principal. It is very likely that one might not even be there when school begins due to HR and slow processing speed.
