Has anyone currently or in the past been a regional employee with DODEA? If covering a fairly big area...and multiple bases would you be required to live on a certain one?
hahaI haven't but I am familiar with the set up being in SPED (and so working with many people that are shared between complexes or are with the district).
Generally you would have a school/complex as a home base/office etc. Generally you would still have the option of living off base, depending on the base, the time you are hired etc.
All new hires are considered temporary until they have served two years (generally consecutive years at the same location but I have seen exceptions to this) and can then be converted to permanent.
I would guess that the temporary option on the EAS is mainly for stateside hires or local hires overseas since they would generally not pay to move someone overseas for a position they know to be temporary.
Jello76Thanks! I'm looking for overseas placement, and want to take any option possible to start with. But I also have a house and kids, and all that, so I wasn't sure if I should select it or not. If it was for a year, that would work. I don't know if I could break my current contract to take a job mid-year or short-term.
How does the transfer round work? Like once you put in to be transferred...I am guessing people are ranked? Or do they just pick candidates to interview and decide that way? Thanks.
There was no transfer round back in 2012, 2013, or 2014. The transfer round was not held in order to save money. Most teachers stayed in the same location. If they moved it was because they found another pathway.
The transfer was reinstated and was held in 2015, 2016, and 2017. But the budget for the transfer round was cutback severely compared The Old Days. This meant that not very many people actually got a transfer.
In each of the last three years there was probably an average of 1,000 applicants for the transfer round. However, only approximately 150 teachers were given a transfer.
So for the last three years only about 15% of applicants to the transfer round actually got a transfer.
And, if you are a glass half full type of person, over the last six years only 7.5% of applicants received a transfer.
But the transfers are not alloted equally. Most transfers in the last three years were overwhelmingly given to A+ and A applicants.
A earlier contributor noted that F applicants are unlikley to get a transfer, but that is also true for applicants in categories B, and D.
In The Old Days principals would use promises of The Transfer Round to entice a good candidate into taking a position at an undesireable location. But wisely they seem to have stopped that practice. Even administration has come to recognize that for most teachers in any given year, the transfer round offers very poor odds.
I hope that when it comes to the transfer round my post helps to give you the big picture.People might question the accuracy of my numbers. That's ok. They are free to double check the numbers with the Union or with HQ. I believe the numbers are close enough, and certainly the numbers are close enough for the purpose of this thread.
Well, this waiting is the worst. Tentative offer, sent in tons of paperwork and information. Still don't have EQIP email yet. Second-guessing myself every step of the way. Anyone else in the waiting game with me?
I am noticing a lot of people have been chosen for overseas placements. Just curious, on your application did you chose places for DODDS and DDESS, or did you or should you choose one or the other for target locations? Thanks
ScholarI was specific- Spain, England, Italy or Germany only. But I was willing to wait a year or two before getting hired so I knew I was being picky.

BubbleHeadI have read post that said they were told 200 and above are considered upper level and another poster said they were told 300 and above are considered upper level. I think you are safe with 500 and above. The only thing that seems to be consistent is inconsistency.
Just a few weeks ago I received an email that I was on a referral list. When do you think it is time to change your application to 2018-2019? I know getting a position mid year is rare, but I am available at anytime and want them to know I can take a position when one becomes available.
hahaYes. Generally they send out an email in February/March telling you to renew your EAS application (e.g. recheck/update your information, reupload your documents, attachments, etc. and resubmit).
Two of my references state that they didn't get their online reference links for my application. I printed out the copies and am ready to give to them, but is there a way to see if they can resend the link?
